Looks like Scoot is fufilling Tony Fernandes AirAsia X dream of opening up Europe to Long Haul Low Cost from Asia. This adds to their current network of Berlin and Athens. I caught one of the first AAX flights to Stansted and look forward to flying Scoot to Gatwick. The advantage of Scoot is that you can buy a sale fare economy class ticket and upgrade to their business product, called ScootPlus at check in or on the airplane. Giving you a business class seat for an economy fare on the price of the legacy airlines. https://flyscootprod.blob.core.wind.../20211112_media_release.pdf?sfvrsn=ba357553_2

In the good ol’ days SQ flew into NKG - since that dest canned I did 100 trips MEL-PVG/PEK->NKG - Scoot fly into NKG so I gave that crack in their J or whatever they call it - OMG bog ordinary product I would hate to do long haul in it - maybe better seats now but goddam they would want to be

I have flown ScootPlus a few times and been happy with what we got for the price paid. But in my opinion the seat should is more comparable to a 'good' Premium Economy Seat not a Business Seat. The leg and elbow room is what has made me happy with it.

Nah… the seats are still the same :( Legroom is ok, but it is a premium economy basic. Scoot’s ‘plus’ cabin can sometimes be as expensive as Jetstar’s ‘business’… but with the latter you get the works including hot meals, unlimited drinks, and a pre landing snack.

No choice for us in Perth as Jetstar didn't offer their version of business Per - Sin which is the route I used Scoot.

I remember MEL_T warning me about JQ J HNL-MEL and not to expect too much - IME it is head and shoulders above Scoot front or whatever they call it

There are plenty of YouTube "aviation" reviewers who have spent time in ScootBiz and posted their experiences. I can't say I will be rushing to be on any of their aircraft :)

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

I like to think of it as the original business class seat :) As for Jetstar comparisons, yeah I don't care about a drink or a meal, I just want an economy fare on premium economy/original business seat to europe..

Somehow I don’t think Scoot’s target market is AFF’ers. We’re a precious bunch at the best of times. It’s real target market is Singaporeans who want to fly on the national carrier, but can’t afford SQ fares so take the inferior, but still locally owned option instead.

Scootbiz is very similar to domestic 737 business class - whilst obviously not a long haul business class product it is usually not priced like a long haul product either. In fact on one of the flights to LGW you can travel SIN-LGW less than QF charge for the similar seat config MEL-SYD. Best to think of Scootbiz as domestic narrowbody J seats, domestic short haul J priced, but distance flown is a lot longer …

As for economy, it’s OK on an empty plane in pandemic times but normally, I find the regular seats horrible, but the seats towards the front with a few inches of extra legroom and adjustable head rests are actually quite comfortable. The adjustable head rests make a big difference, and happy to pay extra for these.

AirAsia X intending a return to London:
I like Tony Fernandes, but I'll see it when I believe it. Interesting that they are introducing a stopover in Dubai though. One would think there would be a lot of competition on that sector and from KUL too.

Though the Istanbul announcement is great though, plenty of cheap as chips flights to Europe from there :)

A330 does not have the range?
Sure, but they could have picked a more intersting and less frequented stopover than Dubai. Emirates is going to slaughter them. Almaty would have been great, :) Alternatively just fly straight to Prague/Warsaw etc.
