Scams like these

I’ve had a few spam messages via booking.com lately. They’ve been sent via the offical chat function and my guess is the hotel has had their booking.com account hacked.

“Hello, (removed my name on booking)

Thank you for choosing (removed hotel name) for your stay.

Unfortunately your booking might be cancelled due to an error during verification of your reservation.

This is a mandatory process to prevent credit card fraud. This must be done within 12 hours or YOUR RESERVATION WILL BE CANCELLED and we will not be able to accept you as a guest!

  • You must be verified even if you have paid for your reservation
  • Please enter your payment details and wait for verification
  • Booking will charge your payment method with your reservation amount, and in a minute will credit it back - this is your payment method verification
You can verify your payment method through a personal link:

(Removed link to a payment site that requests credit card details)

The best banking apps to use are: Revolut, Monzo, N26, Barclays. Make sure you have enough money on your bank card and your online transaction limits are raised.

THIS MESSAGE WAS SENT AUTOMATICALLY, PLEASE DO NOT REPLY TO IT.

Best regards,(removed hotel name)”
As precaution in such situation I would call directly hotel to check status of the booking.

This year the Booking.com services significantly deteriorated and particularly for flights because they use their partnership GoToGate.com

I suggest to check both TAs on the produuctreview.com.au where is described a lot of negative experiences with these TAs.

Should be productreview.com.au

I called booking.com directly and they sent an email confirming the booking is still valid. Regardless I’ve since cancelled that booking myself and have decided to stay elsewhere.

I have only accounts in two banks, but receiving similar SMS or emails from many other Australian or even foreign banks.

It is obvious that these are SCAMS and what are their intentions...

Be aware that banks may ask you to contact but never via any attached links. Such links, like the above one are traps, scams ...

On vs in. When they get better there we have to worry
You must realize that its the "grammar" of the writer that gives it away, hint hint.
If you think of the way they are taught English, you will get it why they write the way they do.
---
The links they want you to click on, also always gives them away.
Tho, its hard to hover over an sms, but its easy in emails.

I would have spelt it as "block(ed)".

Received a new variation of the toll demand. Reported ACMA. Link deactivated and changed.

As of December 3, tolls have not yet been collected. For more information please visit httpsxyz://links.to..llsieas.com to avoid fines. Please expedite processing.

Heh!
Not funny as at you Prozac, but at the length they would go to do the link website address.
Tol*(asieas)... what ever that links to, in the end.
Still no news on what the new Anti Scam Centre will do, to stop these toll scams.
Or even if LinkToll (Holdings)/Linkt can/will do any thing;

The Anti Scam organisation is likely still trying to think of something it can do … the only thing I can think of would be to edumacate the targets a bit better.

Wasn't there a plan too, somewhere in govt, to stop overstamping/diallowing it from mobile phone systems, of course, it would need the mobile phone companies to do it as a whole, for Aust.
If its not Lint, its that Chinese language recorder message that I/we are going to be arrested, not that I know Mandarin, but some people have mentioned to me, that that is the gist of the call when the Chinese lady does her recorded spiel.
2nd, if she mentions, fedex, then its the fake courier scam, now, seeing that fedex bought over tnt couriers.

If someone calls me speaking Chinese, it's an immediate block - scam assumed regardless of content. Same for any recorded message in any language or accent regarding an alleged tax debt or credit.

What's the extension address, not that I would go to it.
Is it @irs.or*g?
Where as the "real" IRS would be irs.go*v.
Looking at it, it has a feel of an African writer this time round.
I would have of course worded it differently.

Yes, the "sieas" was received too, few days back.
Phone didn't pling, as its as a scam, but when I looked at messages, there it was.
Wonder who it acutally "links" to, not that I am game to go and have a look see.
Would be a real low blow for people who live in a state where Linkt does operate.
