Hi All,

I have 90 SC this year and only have one more trip planned that should give me another 90SC. Darwin - Broome RTN. I am earning double SC at the moment.

So to get to Gold this year, I was thinking of doing this run next weekend

  • From Darwin to Sydney QF829 Business Class
  • From Sydney to Brisbane QF506 Business Class
  • From Brisbane to Townsville QF970 Economy
  • From Townsville to Brisbane QF971 Economy
  • From Brisbane to Cairns QF784 Business
  • From Cairns to Darwin QF1874 Economy

This trip requires no overnight stays, rather flying through the night etc.

I have about 74,000 points and think the above trip is about 98000, so will cost me a few dollars. This is just using the classic award option online

Not sure how many Status Credits it will get me, but should be damn close if I dont get enough.

When I went to book it online, it stated I wouldnt get SC and FF points. But I thought there was a special out at the moment?

Any other suggestions or better ways to do this. I only have the one weekend, 14th Dec.

You need to follow this process to obtain sc's. http://www.australianfrequentflyer.com.au/community/showthread.php?t=52004

Hi outbackjack,

If have to double check but I think you'll find that the above offer is only for SC's at discount economy rates on classic economy awards. They won't be eligible for double status credits either. As suggested above, perhaps look into JASA bookings although your suggested itinerary won't be enough to get you to Gold I'm afraid

OK this how many SC I should get with my calculations

From Darwin to Sydney QF829 Business Class 160

From Sydney to Brisbane QF506 Business Class 80

From Brisbane to Townsville QF970 Economy 60

From Townsville to Brisbane QF971 Economy 60

From Brisbane to Cairns QF784 Business 120

From Cairns to Darwin QF1874 Economy 60

Total 540

I already have 90 SC and should get the same. DWN-BME Double Status Credits.

So should give me a total 720

So you'd be paying cash for full Economy? (Classic awards in economy won't get *double* status credits.)

The Status credit offer for Qantas Economy Classic Award bookings is separate to the Double Status credit offer for cash fares and Any Seat Awards that we announced on Friday. Classic Award bookings will not attract Double Status credits. To find out how to earn double Status credits visit www.qantas.com/double

Cheers,
Red Roo

The above will be correct assuming you are making paid bookings using a DSC offer. Also, your economy fares must be classed as economy not discount economy for purposes of status earn (note: most sale and red e deal fares earn at the discount economy rate)

Are you sufficiently confused yet?

Ok I am confused. I thought I would get double SC for all the flights. I was going to ring up and book it using points, perhaps a few dollars as well. Maybe not as easy as I thought......

I checked the email I received and it advises:

Now that you can view Qantas Classic Awards and cash fares in the one place on qantas.com, we are celebrating with a special Status credits offer. Redeeming your Qantas Points for Economy Classic Awards on Qantas has never been more rewarding.* From 30 October to 31 December 2013, new Economy Classic Award# bookings with a Qantas (QF) flight number will attract Discount Economy Status credits when you fly.+ By earning Status credits you could retain your current membership level or be on your way to enjoy greater privileges in the Qantas Frequent Flyer program.

Unfortunately the bookings you're looking at will only earn discount economy status credits as per the T&C's above. However using the process outlined in the asa summary will get you sc's. Tbh if you really want gold and have the time and money I would look at DRW-TSV run or the BNE-KTA run; 72000 points + $607 co-payment. See this thread for best status runs http://www.australianfrequentflyer.com.au/community/showthread.php?t=35258

Otherwise paid QP is your next option. AFF offers QP corporate membership for gold members, which may interest you.

Thanks, looks like I will have to work it out a little better. Brain is not the best now days for these complex things.

I have been WP last year, this year Gold and lifetime silver. But having 2 strokes in the last 12 mths has slowed me down. However back on the mend now and was hoping to fly a lot more next year, so having Gold would give me access to QP, better seats etc.

2! Good to hear you're on the mend. I'm certain your doctor advised there's absolutely no need to try and beat your current pb with a third one. AFF is a great resource and pretty much all questions get a response so ask away.

Thanks for all the help. I am totally confused and have check the other forum message. I thought it was going to be easy. I just wanted to get to Gold again as I will be travelling a lot next year and thought a weekend away could fix it.

Red Roo summed it up perfectly. The easiest option would be Drw-tsv return using an any seat award booked in the U fare class. You do need to call to book this. That will earn 480 SC under the double promo. It will probably require a night in Townsville.

I'm not sure if you have double SC under the new offer released on 1 DEC or under a separate targeted offer. But the new offer allows booking in dec to get double SC until the end of Jan.

Whoops can't count, you'd need another 40 SC.

When does your member year end?

What about Drw-tsv, tsv-ADL, ADL-Drw. The last being a paid Y fare or Y classic award?

Member runs out End of December. I have 90 SC now and am doing a rtn trip to Broome on the 20th, back into Dwn on the 23rd or 24th. That should give me another 90 SC I think.

Yes got the Dec 1 offer.

Was trying to avoid paying for hotel somewhere, rather be in the air most of the night, arriving early am or such.

[-]Having another look. I'd suggest ASA in U on DRW-SYD (existing choice) SYD-TSV, TSV-DRW

Those are the city pairs to put into your search.[/-]

Strike that, it's not right on my part.

It might also be worth considering the cost of the legs that you can cut out versus the cost of a hotel.
