I'm sitting on 910 SC at the moment. I need another 490 SC to get platinum by end of September.

It seems like an awful waste of SC if i don't get platinum this year. So close, but yet so far.

Any suggestions on how I can earn 490SC relatively cheaply? I am based in PER. Will consider business class travel.

The cheapest way I can think of would be to get to BKK with points and then do 4 return trips BKK-SIN on AY for 480 SC's in D class. This will take you around 6 days, 2 days to get there and back and 4 days for SC's runs, costing ~$1750 for AY fares + points and ~$350 taxes for PER-HKG-BKK return + 5 nights accommodation and meals. Since you are still 10 SC's short you may have to do a PER-KGI return in discount economy.

All up cost ~$3000 and 6 days of your time.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Or hope NZ has a sale in business that QF matches. PER-SYD/MEL/BNE-AKL return in business is 320 SCs. I don't know your chances - the current NZ business sale is SYD/MEL/BNE only.

490 SCs is a lot to get in just over a month, especially if you don't have existing travel (which possibly could be tweaked to improve SC earn). Its gonna take time and money. Are you really going to get value from the marginal benefit of Plat over Gold?

480SCs is still a long way off. Even if there is a sale, unless finding a v special fare , the cost of getting 500SCs would be pretty pricey.

Is it worth several thousand $ just to get a platinum card

If you want to do it then perhaps consider the judicious use of , say, an DONE4 ATW ticket ex BOM. $7000 plus tax ; you could start by flying BOM-HKG-AKL-BNE-ADL-PER which would earn 460SCs.

This then leaves you with a business class ticket with 1 AU sector remaining plus can then fly to North America , Europe and back to Asia next year which with judicious use could earn the 1200 SCs needed to renew
