Sandwich Jaffle Maker OK?

In the old days, while held up in the hostage departure lounge, my dive group whipped out a jaffle maker, and made toasted cheese sandwiches for us, then boiled water for hot drip coffee. And abandoned the maker after it had done its job - they are $10 new, or $2 at trash and treasures. Can be used to reheat pizza slices too, and compliments the ice filled esky with drinks and icecream for the kids.

I'm off again, and wondering if the xray goons may object to this chunk of metal with wires? as in oh its a black blob, automatic rejection. Guess I will try, as if I am unreasonably prevented , might do a cook-up on the other side or in the carpark area. Trouble was last time, I lost track of time, and apparently a 'no show' caused them to unload my baggage.

I've asked nicely where the staff kitchens are, but to no avail, and they do not even allow pizza deliveries through. So rude! I'm a pensioner, and I just shake my head at those silly airport prices. And I find a mini travel Iron is too slow in warming toast.

So, will a jaffle make be OK? A vegetable peeler?

O.K for a starters, I will admit I have never found myself boggling this question, and I am sure that for most of us business flyers that we would probably wouldn't. Its not a snob thing (don't get me wrong) its just that we (I at least) fly for business reasons and the jaffle machine is not the norm or de riguer item for business travel.

Things that are: a laptops and worst case scenario a data projector, are the norm and these have become in this new-age Uber security still a p.i.t.a to carry.

For instance in Frankfurt you have go through three levels of hand-luggage check, so every time you come to a security check you have to get it out of bag to show Helga and Fritz that all is ..goot..

But go for it I reckon.. If you understand 12 languages and can pull it out of bag and explain its usage to every one of the security guards what you use it for, then do it. If you want to get pulled off a plane or worse case scenario sent back to your own country for causing a "level one..call the SWAT team" emergency in the states, then hey savingUS$2.00 on a sandwich is probably not the best value-driven decision you have ever made.

No: go for it. Just when a Hiroshima cloud of smoke has just cleared out International domestic at SIN and guards have pulled out automatic weapons on you (AM not joking ..remember a hint of drugs and they hang you in this country) because you went off for a pee and you forgot your 60c Jaffle and baked beans and it has set the carpet alight, then hey? Whom am I to tell you to do otherwise. Its a free country..

I find paying $2.00 more for a sandwich in the departure lounge may be more palatable than all of the above.But then again I do remember my flights and have never have brought an Esky with my full supply of Jaffle making goods..

So go for it I reckon; The worlds your oyster..

Or as we say here on ff.com.au "the worlds your Jaffle" ..

Why couldn't you get a pizza delivered? I can't see any problem with getting a pizza delivered to the airport - as long as you obey the security requirements. Even International should be Ok as long as you collect it landside and it won't be entering another country. (well, it wouldn't be if I had a pizza and a long flight...)

I thought US and UK LCC's were encouraging people to BYO? (well, not in the UK right now...)

Australian Customs and Quarantine agents will not be the slightest concerned about you taking something into another country unless its a prohibited export.

But if already air side, there is no practical way to get a Pizza delivered.

Now if this has been Sydney airport, and they were still land-side, no need for Pizza as they could visit Krispy Kream .

I love a good jaffle, but have never thought of travelling with a jaffle maker.

Some laptops get warm enough to cook eggs on. Perhaps you could use this approach and fashion some sort of tinfoil tent to cook jaffles in. It's worth a try...

The the Jaffle maker question is for real. Gluten / Lactose intolerance and/or peanut allergy is a problem for some, and the coffee joints cross contaminate the steamer or mix spoons in the milk jug too frequently, and allergic to all things golden arches, except the facilities. If you are kosher, multipy these woes.

My car rental firm said no worries about using the staff microwave, before going in.

Due to the current fuss, it is a bad time to test principle over stressed out x-rayers, whose machines sometimes randomy overlay evil objects on pax luggage to keep them on their toes. Eh, no laptops will upset a few, but not as bad as Senior Captains being asked to take off their shoes.

Its amazing. Many members muck around to save $5-$10 on a ticket, jump hoops for frequent flyer points (how do you value your time), or winge about beers being $6 a cup at the footy, or get relatives to dropoff/pickup from the airport. How about, yeah, whats the beef, so the family petrol tank only costs a *few* more dollars to fill up these days.

Perhaps this is why the overpriced Sydney train link without FF points is shunned. Saving a dollar is 100% tax free. For those with company paid lounge membership, maybe that free lunch is not so free, and the stigma of being seen on a LCC is too much! Comes to to your pocket, or other peoples pockets. Walmart has not done too badly counting each and every penny, Vs retailers and 600,000 small businesses who have unpaid tax obligations, and wonder why things arn't like the good'ol days.

Ever since I was refused a glass of water for some tablets, it has become war against the AC concessions who pay upto 50% of turnover to Airport management. This frequent birdie has flights and hotels paid by management, and the only 'gravy' is in pocketing travel and meal allowances - it all adds up, as all Federal politicians know fully. Aussies just don't understand the term 'nickeled and dimed', and as a result of laziness or inepitude, get creamed by bank fees - as an example.

Let me say there was no problem at Brisbane domestic, being practical, whereas southern hospitality hits you up with toll road fees even before you arrive. Ever practical, the coffee will go into a thermos, and a 240v resistive travel jug coil used to warm up the other stuff, assuming hand luggage is allowed. We will see if the can opener is declared dangerous.

Travel Tip- take a 2 litre empty PET container through, and a plastic funnel. Each 1 litre DF bottle weights 2kgs. Transfer the contents and leave 2kgs of glass at the airport. A good thing, I think.

Point taken on medical intolerances..

Ethernet I am a consultant that gets paid if he gets to the country by Rhajistkistan airlines flying via Lebanon or if I fly Qantas, so yes I watch where every penny goes but by frequent flyer free flights from time-to-time makes it worth while This is what they are set up for, so why not use them

I never buy alcohol duty free..

Mad treddly freak so take it everywhere in the world I go.. so cheap transport.. here in Dublin its fantastic as flat city with lots of bike tracks..

Good luck on your trip, but hint was to tavel lightly which sometimes means leaving Jaffle machine at home..
