Does anyone have the Samsonite firelite 55cm spinner and had any troubles with jetstar, qantas, virgin or tiger when you carried it on?

Asking because the bag is slightly larger than the allowed dimensions by all Australian airlines

Any help would be much appreciated

I didn't buy it in the end but the girl in the shop told me her dad was Qantas Platinum and travelled all over the world and he had one. The only issue he ever had was with Virgin.

The hardshell bags are interesting... Not sure any would fit in the test units with their wheels

I regularly travel with a 55cm Samsonite Cosmolite on QF - while not a firelite IMO they are very similar. I have never had any issues or been questioned on its size. I always have to get a premium bag tag on Q-Link but its size and often excess weight are never raised.

Only had 2 trips on JQ - no issue

I have no experience on Virgin or Tiger

The girl in the shop can say many things. Some don't even realise (or don't admit) that it's airline specific and there may be different sizes for international and domestic.

I always take a tape measure with me when buying new luggage to make sure that it will comply with airlines that I plane to fly (e.g., QF 48cm for domestic, 56cm international; AA 56cm, including wheels and handles). If it doesn't comply, it may go in the hold. Not likely, but possible.

Edit: Restrictions on some routes.

I have a Samsonite Firelite 55 and have travelled on JQ and QF with it without issue.

I've taken mine on domestic QF a few times and had no issue. Wasn't game to risk the hassle of rejection on the VA flights given their dimensions restriction of 105cm (rather that 115cm on QF).
