I am Platinum and am looking to fly Business from LHR to BNE and am thinking of flying Cathay. Does anybody know if you get the same status credits flying Cathay as if I were flying QF? I know the points are less, but the discount fare being offered by Cathay is good value.

It depends on the exact flights you take. But assuming you are flying the most direct route then Cathay BNE-xHKG-LHR will earn you 280 SC each way. Doing the same on Qantas will earn you 280 SC and the alternative Qantas routing BNE-xSIN-LHR also will earn you 280 SC. For the same route SCs will be the same on Qantas or Cathay.

A more indirect routing such as BNE-xPER-xSIN-LHR would earn you 340 SCs on Qantas.
