Hi,

Girlfriend and I are off to Hong Kong in late December for a few days. She will be arriving a few (6) hours before me and would probably check into a pre-booked hotel first. We will probably book through hotelclub or asiarooms under her name (so she can check in).

My question is how am I suppose meet up with her at the hotel. We won't have phones in Hong Kong and no internet access. Can I just go to the Hotel reception and ask for the room number if I show them the booking?

I thought it would be easy but it looks a bit complicated than I initially thought.

Thanks,
Alan

Alan,

My suggestion is that you put the booking in both names and take a print out confirmation with you.Enjoy HK:)

I didn't know you could do that. We were gonna take advantage of hotelclub's $50 offer and have her to book the first hotel before we move to another hotel that's booked under my name. Looks like we'll have to forfeit one of the free $50 offers.

I would have thought that you could ask at reception, alternatively you could get the hotel to send a message to her in the room that you are there.

It is very simple... Get the GF to advise reception that you will be coming later... No problem whatsoever...

I don't know whether they will disclose such information (that a certain person is staying and at what room) though. Maybe won't be too much issue with leaving a message. Thanks.

Get her to leave an envelope with your name at front desk for a friend to pick up.
Inside - her room number (and room key)

Simple....

Even simpler.....
At the lobby, grab a hotel phone which connects you to the hotel operator...."please put me through to the room of M/s xx_X, checked in today a few hours ago".

Thanks everyone for your wonderful suggestions. It sure is great help for people like me who do not have much experience with travel and hotels.

I did this in October with my now (thank goodness!!!) Ex-Girlfriend, as she flew out of SYD in the morning and I flew out in the evening as I had a few meetings with clients. We had both our names on the booking, and when I arrived at CHC a touch before midnight, I simply proceeded to the hotel, showed the confirmation advice and got the key :)

I'd usually notify the hotel prior to arrival. Never been a problem so far, even when the other person's name isn't on the reservation. spg.com doesn't have the option of inserting 2 names into the reservation - you'd either include it as part of 'special requests' and/or ring up the hotel/SPG.

If making use of those $50 offers - book the first night in your GF's name, make a separate booking for the second night in your name and stay in the same hotel (without raising too much, if any, suspicion on Hotelclub's end)

I would do this too - there are plenty of strategies available to meet up - and if worst came to worst she could simply wander down to the lobby at your expected arrival time (bearing in mind the one time I had organised to meet up with a family member in HK my plane was 12 hours late!)

There should be absolutely no problem with going to reception, tell them that you are supposed to meet Ms xx_X and ask if they can let her know your here. The reception should then contact then using the phone (wonderful invention). They are probably quite used to doing this because any guess who has to meet someone wil generally not know their room number.

This is the same idea as using a lobby phone.
