Hi all,

First post - I checked and couldn't find any information on this so sorry if I missed it.

I am looking at flights from ADL-SYD-HKG (QF740, QF127)and HKG-SYD-ADL (QF128, QF741) going with Qantas all the way. They have sale fares that seem to show 'class V' for each leg when I check the source code for the booking page.

I am wondering:
  • how do I confirm whether each leg is treated as Economy or Discount Economy for Status Credit purposes?
    • I presume the International leg is Discount Economy given that only Y Class fares are treated as Economy, but I seem to get variable responses for the Sale / 'V class' fares depending where I look or who I ask.
  • how do I confirm whether or not the flights are upgradable.
    • Unfortunately the 'Fare Conditions' say "Flight Upgrade Awards are not eligible on all Sale fares between Australia and Asia". I am not sure whether this means that (1) all sale fares are not eligible for upgrade, or (2) some, but not all, flights are eligible. If it is the latter, when can I find this out?
Is there an over-riding factor that determines the status credits and upgrade eligibility? (ie most places I look suggest that a V class fare is treated as a standard Economy fare for SC purposes, and similarly most places I read suggest that V class fares are eligible) I would love to have a definitive answer before I book. I have access to KVS Availability Tool (Plat) but I couldn't seem to find this information on there.

I look forward to any advice you may have as I am just starting my mission to maximise my flights as much as possible and am keen to learn from those in the know.

Cheers,

Tim

I've got the same fare booked for hkg and the dom sector is treated as full Y SC and int as discount Y. and yes they are upgradable.

Would I be right in making the assumption that when I get the fare type from using the 'source code' approach in this forum is correct?

i.e. The SALE FARE that I have booked is actually a 'V Class' fare and hence all rules on the QANTAS site should apply to it. Alternatively, are there some special exceptions that apply to sale fairs or should I look somewhere else?
