what are the chances? - not high given history, but any advice / stories would be grateful.

Op-up or upgrade with QFF points?

As a Platinum you have a better chance than most with either option. Also that time of the year is school holidays in some states so even better chance. Checking availability closer to the time of the flight would give you a better indication.

Fridays can be bad for an upgrade. Sunday through Thurs are good days. But, you never know.

Are you just 1 passenger travelling alone?

What underlying fare class are you in (eg Economy (S))?

'S' is not likely to be a sale fare for Qantas Transpac, they are normally O or Q.

Have you looked at seat counter?

Y0/B0/H0 combined with I9/D9/J9 would indicate op-up chances are higher for WP.

Since it's all 5 months away I doubt fare bucket loading would be a good guide anyway.
