Flew Perth -> Melbourne last week on VH-XFB and took off almost an hour late.
When it came to the safety demo there was no / extremely silent sound which could not be heard. I was waiting for them to actually turn it up and re-start so people could hear it but they just continued.

Is this actually legal to fly an aircraft without any sound on the safety briefing?

I suppose technically no; if no one could hear the safety briefing (or hear it properly), that's almost the same as not being given it at all? (Although there is a video with transcribed words... I wonder if it's arguable that that is a minimum).

If the volume was unacceptably low, how did the crew take their cue to point out the nearest emergency exits to you?

Then again, no one really cares and no one will report it, so it won't matter anyway.

I have seen the same issue on QF, however one of the Cabin Crew will then read the transcript over the PA.

That was back in the day, Hello Again.

This happened to me several weeks back on a QF 737-800 NG. Picture was fine on the video, but no sound! A few minutes into the video the crew realised and then found a script to read. Take off was delayed several minutes as we were about to enter the runway when the video would have finished but they had to redo the entire script.

I have definitely had the PA speech version not too long ago - however the briefing is invariably too loud than too quiet. Having been on these forums for a while I feel guilty when I don't listen to it and expect a PM if I don't... I am amazed at how many people ignore it completely.

Yep I expected a crew member to come over the PA and read out the instructions. However, no-one did
The crew did come along along the cabin and do their pointing to the exits etc. However, again with no sound.

Indeed I already have :-)
I just wondered what everyone's take on it was.
Flew XFE Saturday and the CS said Cabin Crew to manual positions and the EPs were done without the video and clear and audible.
