The Independent said:
A passenger jet slid off a runway after hitting a patch of ice today.

The Ryanair plane skidded on to the grass moments after landing at Prestwick Airport, just after 9am.

No one was injured, police said.

A Strathclyde Police spokesman said: "It happened just after 9am as it landed. It slipped on to the grass. No one was injured and all the passengers have been taken to the terminal."

Alex Paton, a passenger on the plane, told the BBC: "Everyone was pretty shocked. I don't think most people realised we were in a field

Not wanting to upset any passenger involved but I wonder if the trumpet was playing to celebrate another ontime landing?

If they parked in a field, that would mean buses would be required to ferry customers to the terminal...

This is RYAN AIR....

I wonder how much the bus fare was?

Mr!

I’m guessing we’ll hear of a few more such incidents while it stays cold and icy in the UK and Europe.

I had to laugh at the comment from one passenger.
Passenger Philip O'Reilly, 50, from Castlebar, County Mayo, Ireland, described how the drama unfolded.
"We landed on the Tarmac, the plane was moving very fast, and I realised it wasn't going to stop in time.
"The pilot, as far as I know, reversed the thrusters and either steered off the runway or accidentally came off, I don't know which.
"All I can say is it was very skilful. He did a great job."
:lol::lol::mrgreen:

?

The plane had problem with ice and skidded off; the pilot may well have done a good job in ensuring the the outcome was just a minor event

Dave

You do have to wonder: why the airport wasnt aware there was ice on the runway?

If the airport did know, why was the runway not cleared and/or why was the plane landing?

It's just a good thing there were no injuries - the accident investigation will make interesting reading.

I was commenting on the irony that someone would think that if the plane had been steered off the end of the runway that it would be a good job.

I guess it depends on what the alternative would have been

Just to elaborate.

If an aircraft is aquaplaning (or skidding) it is 99% luck and 1% skill as to what is the actual outcome. To suggest that he had any effective control is really stretching things.
