Although I have seen the articles about 'staff treatment' by former staff etc. and I am by no way agreeing with them or saying it doesn't happen, but I think this is more based on the old saying 'there is always another side to the story' disgruntled staff.etc.
On a QR flight this year when flying in J I noticed a FA with an Kiwi accent, so when I was waiting for a toilet up front was having a chat with her, she was from auckland but moved to Doha for the job. I asked her about the articles I had read and she said there are strict rules of conduct etc. don't be mistaken but for most part the articles are exaggerated and where they were true it is often just a power hungry manager being over zealous rather than it being blanket policy. She said that QR had a great training spread, and staff amenities being top notch. That being said she confirmed that the pregnancy policy does exist, but with most expats in Qatar/UAE it is generally not a lifetime career choice(no citizenship etc) and she chose Qatar for the experience and purely for the job, you don't go there to enjoy the lifestyle you go there to work, earn and go back home.
Very honest and interesting insight none the less from her, after all the cabin crew are from all corners of the world so can't be that bad if even people from 1st world countries want to work there (I have met Swiss, German and British cabin crew before on QR among others).
