I'm sure many love a good rumour... the one I heard recently is that QF mainline will pull out of CNS & TSV completely, moving services to Jetstar and QFLink 717s via Cobham (with Business Class).

I can see how there may be some truth the rumour, considering they've already done similar at HBA. Services to MEL & SYD can fall to Jetstar, and business travellers could be placated with the new Business class service on the 717 to/from BNE. It's a way to save money. Might be another reason they announced the closure the crew base in CNS recently and halved the ground crew.

Don't shoot me: I'm just starting the thread, not the rumour.

I think we should discuss this thoroughly for a minimim of 30 pages.... go!

The company I work for currently uses Qantas for charter flights CNS-MOV-CNS. Hopefully this doesn't change.

I cannot see it happening, for a start there are no more 717s with J on offer, so they would have to cannabalise existing fleet routes to make it work, while Gove will soon lose it services that wont help much.

Hang on .... the minimum of 30 pages seems a bit arbitrary lets discuss that first ;)

Aside from that the lack of a VA lounge in Townsville is the bad news... The Cairns VA addition is good and the staff their are very good when I have been there

Only a rumour at this stage but this is precisely why I am glad that I already have a foothold in the VA camp!

Loads on both VA and QF for their TSV-BNE services have been a bit low but will pick up now the wet season is finally over, I would imagine that the CNS folks would be most unhappy with this development as well.

No problem. Just put dash-8s back onto the HBA route!

ps re CNS etc. Don't forget its not just the QF planes that leave, its their staff as well. How well will that QantasLink contractor know how to check your bags through to New York, and help you with AA Enquiries when you check in?

TSV surprises me with the amount of Govt type people there that they would potentially lose that revenue.

Lot's of Govt type people go at the last minute out of TSV and we the tax payer foot the bill.

Only 30? ;)

surely we'll need more than that.

The lack of 717's would definitely be a problem with this. Unless QF borrow some from DL.

How many pages did the butter thread get to it?????

Qantas cancelled Perth Singapore so anything is possible in this world.

I was looking at Melbourne - Perth on Jetstar due to a current sale and I was surprised at the number of flights.

Is it more than 3 flights a day now? Last time we used JQ between MEL and PER it took them 11 weeks to get us our itinerary, they cancelled our flight without notice (but changed us to the late flight - we were moved to a better flight on request) and also received exit seats for free returning from MEL (it pays to be nice to the Check in agent!). Add lounge access it wasn't bad for 400 return for 2 all inclusive!

Where did you hear this rumour?

Initially I thought the same, but then remembered there's plenty of 717s and Dash 8s in and out of CBR, and apparently they're good enough for Govt-type people there, albeit I acknowledge somewhat of a difference between a 1 hour and almost 2 hour timetable. As someone else mentioned, apparently loads in/out of TSV haven't been great recently.

Where did you hear this rumour?

Where all good rumours start, of course: in the rumour mill!

I don't care what I fly in, as long as the time doesn't change.

As an interesting aside, I wonder how many deserters VA would pick up if they opened a lounge in TSV.

Few weeks ago going to CNS, had 2 QF FA's based in CNS next to me. They said all Qantas CNS based crew are out, choice of relocation. However, the CNS QC is nice, looks pretty new.

Tsv is my home port. I will be most unhappy if this occurs. Whenever I fly, flts are full.
