Qantas pulling out of HNL - PPRuNe Forums

Interesting rumours on PPRuNe suggesting either:

1) QF dumping HNL, subbed for Jetstar - the spreading cancer!
2) Upgrade to red tail A330

I sure hope it's the latter!

Call me an alarmist, but I don't see QF Int'l making their 100th b'day at this rate. If only JB was running the show!

Last I heard was that it was next on the cards to be upgraded from the A330 from the 767. Having said that - the plans do keep changing.

Any of those actions stated is a 'meh' reaction from me.

HNL wasn't really a QF route anyway since they stopped using it as a port of call into the Americas - just look at how much contempt they treat it with running a 767 on it. Upgrading it to a 333 is merely a progressive move, i.e. towards retiring the 767s, albeit it is admittedly a much more comfortable ride for a very long flight.

If they give the whole thing to JQ then at least it's one airline on the route. QF won't be missed if they pull off the route (certainly, QF pulling off SFO hits much, much harder than if QF pulled off HNL). How many times have we discussed on this forum people not being able to "decide" between QF J or JQ *C to HNL? Let alone QF vs other carriers to HNL?

No such thing as only a 767?

I would take a 763 in economy any day over those horrible recaro seats, PIFE notwithstanding.

I forgot how bad the recaro seats are for me until traveling to AKL last night.*
Also a Dreamtime seat anytime over millennium (Skybeds are another matter :p).

*(No chance of a 734 being subbed on the way home as it's been basically showing Y0 for the last three weeks.)

Agree 763 is a great workhorse and more comfortable than anything else around at present.

Well, I guess if you both had to go to HNL then a saving grace would be they wouldn't be using the ex-BA birds on that route.

I don't mind the new Recaro seats, but I guess it can't be hard for someone with the wrong height, wrong body length, wrong size of posterior, wrong etc. to be uncomfortable in them.

At least there are other options for HNL, we're stuck with only QF 763s for PER-NRT and it is not a nice trip at all. The only thing that prevents the poor Y passengers from dying of boredom, depression or going stir crazy is the nighttime schedule. Too bad if you can't sleep on planes in Y - the longest 10 and a half hours of your life!
It wouldn't be so bad if it were Air Asia X and we were paying their prices, but it isn't and we're not.

Here's to the removal of QF 763s from flights over 5 hours! ;)

Lovely how on PPRuNe there is one rumour about the demise of a route and another about the upgrade of the same route. I'm going to assume that the service isn't going to stay the same forever so clearly PPRuNe has "predicted" what happens to QF to HNL.

I'm going to put it out there that Qantas will either make a profit or a loss this financial year. My mate at Mascot told me so.

I do find it strange that they still offer the 1 QF flight a week to HNL

Also the QF flight operates on the same day at the JQ flight!!!

Price difference at standard fares is about $80 more for QF

I have always flown JQ *Class to HNL, as much as I hate JQ and everything they stand for this is the only route I fly them on.

Even if QF put an A330 on it, I wouldn't be paying the silly fares they would charge for a business class airfare for an HNL flight.

Here here. I've travelled this leg twice now (albeit in J), and still can't believe they have better planes flying Perth to Sydney than they do Perth to Tokyo. Later this year my wife and I are flying back from Tokyo via Singapore. ;)

Closing of HNL QP?

Posts on FT stating the HNL A/C may be no more and they will be using the Sakura Lounge from Next month:

Anyone else know anything about this? I really like the shower, and the walk is healthy...

I was there at the begining of August and one of them mentioning sharing space with the JAL lounge...

That is the multi-sourced rumor. The upside is that the JAL Sukua Lounge is closer to the AA gates.

I wonder if Qantas will 'move' as well with the current facility completly closed. The only Qantas group flight is in the morning.
