Hi all,
One of our bucket stops is Cuba, but we also need to stop in SF. A ticket cannot include both countries. My plan is to stop in Mexico City and have a separate ticket to Cuba, but does anyone have a better suggestion?

Thanks,

Sounds like a good plan - another would be a stop in any of the central american or south american cities. (PTY for example)

The other is to wait for the US thingy to completely disappear - which is coming.

As juddles said ... and when you buy your plane ticket, they should sell you the visa for Cuba at the same time (I think its called a visa - your entry documentation in any case).

At the moment until such time as the embargo lifts, if you go into an American Company such as AMEX to change some cash, if they pleasantly ask you where you are going, do not say Cuba, they won't give you any USD or EUR.

I'm in the middle of planning a similar trip to Cuba.
We are flying Cubana from Cancun to Havana and back
It does have a bad safety reputation years back but it seems no accidents for a while. I bought the tickets online on the Cubana website

Panama City or Mexico City are other options. There were very cheap flights via Mexico City with a discount carrier I just can't remember the name of now.

Very exciting to see Cuba before it changed

We stopped over in Havana in 2010; got our Visa at the consulate in Sydney. They did not put it into our passports. rather on a separate piece of paper that you hand over at immigration. They also didn't stamp passports (unless you ask) so that you don't have problems later on in the LOTFAP.

Provided your flights to/from Cuba are on a separate ticket, you should be OK; if on the same ticket the US guys have been known to cancel your ticket on your behalf. Don't risk it.
