Just saw one of the staff working at QP walking around , cleaning plates etc.

Talking to this chick, almost chatting her up.

Then asking for her ID, because he just needs to check she is "legal for drinking".
Has a good look at her license, walks away and comes back and talks more ... like chat up talk.

LOL.

Are they meant to check ID? I would have thought "having to be 18 or accompanied by an adult" on entry was enough !

I guess they can ask for ID when you're by the bar if they think you look under 25 I think it is, but that's pretty shocking how blatant that would be flirting and not an RSA thing.

Can't recall if I've ever been asked, but been over age whenever I've been in a QP.

I recall getting my cousin into a night club when she was only 16, simply because she looked over 18. It's still illegal to serve a minor even though they're in the company of an adult. So if the person serving the alcohol has any doubts about a persons age then yes, they should be asking for ID.

I saw this thread topic and thought it was going to be about the CSA asking people for ID to verify their entitlement to have entry to the Lounge. I'm sure there is a bit of rorting going on when all you need to do is just flash the Plat/Gold card without necessarily showing a boarding pass.

Now that they have chip enabled cards, can anyone see that they will 'automate' entry to the lounge where you will swipe through like in an office building? Might reduce the overcrowing from people who aren't entitled...

Impossible to automate 100%, as there are other members (OWE / OWS) that don't have RFID chips...

Many many years ago I was once asked for ID at the Qantas club bar...

Which lounge was this, I can imagine one particular lounge might be paying more attention than normal to such matters!

It is a common ploy to use an id check as a way to gain info on someone. With Facebook being an online directory of most under 30s and licences showing addresses something that simple can be an attempt to cruise or stalk. But it isn't always. The best advice I'd suggest is to use ID without an address, but also locking Facebook down as well.

Not suggesting the staffer was out of line, but merely discussing the wider topic.

Someone at the bar at MEL DOM J once warily asked if I was legal (must have been a little too casually dressed for once). My relatively surprised response seemed to take care of the situation and she didn't actually card me, though I did offer it up and joke about it. The response certainly wasn't as bad as what appears to happen to those who manage to get in and actually are under age, though!

The same question can be raised on board. I sat next to a girl who was enjoying the free spirits in J and I'd be very surprised if she was over 18. The FA's never queried it.

At most QP's that I visit I have to swipe my WP card under the scanner to show that I am there. That provides a very quick service and I hate carrying boarding passes if I can at all avoid it. A few times I've tried walking into ADL and PER QP's without scanning, but everytime I am stopped and asked to do so.
