Some OW competition to MH on the KUL-CGK route! This is already a very cheap route, I wonder if it will affect pricing, but I doubt it considering it's only 3 flights/week.

It doesn't seem to have affected pricing on the HKG-BKK sector, another tag for RJ. CX is still sky high. But the RJ fares themselves can be good.

Perhaps this might become another good option for cheap J Asia-Europe?

Courtesy of airlineroute, the timings for the RJ flights:
RJ184 AMM0130 - 1625KUL1720 - 1825CGK 330 135
RJ185 CGK1955 - 2255KUL2355 - 330 135 0415 + 1AMM

Not sure how those go for say a connecting flight (QF Y or J) to CKG, or the connection onwards from AMM to Europe. A sample fare KUL-CDG to Paris in November is coming in at around MYR11000 - not cheap unless they price CGK significantly cheaper.

Does this mean RJ will no longer run the BKK-KUL tag?

airlineroute summarises the changes here: Royal Jordanian East Asia Network Changes from Dec 2015 | Airline Route

From what I can make out:

  • AMM-BKK-KUL flight is replaced by AMM-KUL-CGK
  • AMM-BKK-HKG continues
  • new service - AMM-BKK-CAN
  • BKK served in total by 7x weekly flights (plane tagging to either CAN/HKG depending on day of week)

As for the earlier discussion on whether RJ would bring down fares, it looks like they have no traffic rights BKK-CAN and KUL-CGK for the time being.

from airlineroute:
Jordanian royal is from 02DEC15 Adjusting service to East Asia, Which includes Planned new service to Guangzhou in China while RESUMING service to Jakarta in Indonesia The OneWorld Member Plans to Operate 3 Weekly. Amman - Bangkok - Guangzhou service with Boeing 787-8 Aircraft.

RJ180 AMM0245 - 1525BKK1640 - 2015CAN 787 135
RJ181 CAN2205 - 2355BKK0055 + 1 - 787 135 0525 + 1AMM

From the Same Date, the 3 Weekly Amman - Bangkok - Kuala Lumpur Will Managing Director Amman - Kuala Lumpur nonstop operation, and extends to Jakarta, using Airbus A330-200 Aircraft RJ Last Jakarta in May 2003 served..

RJ184 AMM0130 - 1625KUL1720 - 1825CGK 330 135
RJ185 CGK1955 - 2255KUL2355 - 330 135 0415 + 1AMM

RJ does not have local traffic rights on Bangkok - Guangzhou and Kuala Lumpur -. Jakarta sector RJ's overall service to Bangkok remains unchanged at 7 weekly, including 4 weekly Amman - Bangkok - Hong Kong.

Reservations for both Guangzhou and Jakarta are currently not available at time this post goes to press.
