I can book Hervey Bay -> Manila via Qantas using points no worries that goes via Brisbane & Sydney.

But paying cash, only offered via Brisbane and Hong Kong which takes a lot longer.

Is there a reason why? Any tricks to getting the preferred route?

Nah see problem is:

06:45
Fraser Coast (Hervey Bay)
Duration: 0h 55m
07:40
Brisbane
QF2371

10:50
Brisbane
Duration: 9h 10m
18:00
Hong Kong
QF97
20:30
Hong Kong
Duration: 2h 15m
22:45
Manila

BUT if you look for Fraser Coast->Brisbane, there is no 6:45am option.

The itinerary I want (FC->Bris->Syd->Man) is available in economy + business as a reward flight.

Won't come up in normal search.
Won't come up in multi-city (says individual flights aren't available)

I can book via Qantas.com but it's 13.5 hrs either way compared with 18 hrs either way... considerable difference.
Though if I can't do it then :)

Ah I have found the issue.
In my logged in Safari I am getting a different format, and also see very few flights.
In logged out Chrome it all works as expected. I can see all the legs, everything makes sense.

However more than 2 segments per day so need to book on the phone.

They will do $895 return vs the $1119 I could do via Brisbane which was also 8 hrs longer, so that's a win!!

Only downside is I am booked on the same Manila flight in business using points, miss's will be in economy :shock::shock::shock:

Uh oh.

Not even luck will help you there. :p

However the workaround is when you board you explain to the CSM that you are swapping seats with your wife and you'll be sitting in whY. Your only get out of jail free card would be to put in a points upgrade request if the fare booked is (an upgradeable) saver fare or above - sale or red-e-deals don't count.
