Yes. Yes. No.Does anyone own one of those ultrasonic jewellery cleaners and do they work or is it a scam?
I use a baby tooth brush and some toothpaste and my jewellery comes up just fine, sparkly and clean. I do it about twice a year.Yes. Yes. No.
Just last night I used the alfoil, bicarb soda, hot water, detergent and salt immersion. Works well.I use a baby tooth brush and some toothpaste and my jewellery comes up just fine, sparkly and clean. I do it about twice a year.
I have one, paid about $200-$275 by memory and it does work.
I have the ALDI unit and think it does a reasonable job. I'm not sure if a more expensive one does a better job or not, but for the price paid I'm happy with it's performance.Just cleaned all my watches in my $30 ALDI ultrasonic cleaner last weekend.
Came out heaps cleaner
Try hydrochloric and nitric acid combined!Just last night I used the alfoil, bicarb soda, hot water, detergent and salt immersion. Works well.
Try hydrochloric and nitric acid combined!
Yes I know. Was a facetious remark given the nonsense combination already used instead of a nondestructive ultrasound device. Not a great mixture for those who don't know about acids and, as a metallurgist, strongly suggest not one to be mixing at home. The result is Aqua Regia which dissolves gold, so you may have no jewellery left depending upon the strength. And, if you mix them the wrong way, you can produce chlorine gas. Nasty stuff and should only be used in a fume hood.
My method worked nicely Thankyou.Try hydrochloric and nitric acid combined!
So you've never tried it then.Yes I know. Was a facetious remark given the nonsense combination already used instead of a nondestructive ultrasound device.

The "nonsense combination" is actually a basic electrolytic reaction; for silver, the black tarnish (Ag2S) is converted back to silver and Al2S3 formed. Hot water increases reaction times and the salts increase pH and ion transfer. Ultrasound only cleans and doesn't remove sulphides/oxides.Yes I know.
