Going to Europe in July with the fam however because of some poor planning we are splitting up at Rome (FCO) with half going to UK and I am going to Frankfurt (FRA), then hooking up with Etihad and heading home via Abu Dhabi. The problem is I can only see 2 airlines (Lufthansa and Alitalia) that fly direct between Rome and Frankfurt. Firstly it seems a little strange that only 2 airlines have direct flights between these cities and secondly the fares they are asking are ridiculous for one way flights being around $800AUD. The other odd thing is business is around $670AUD. I have be using skyscanner.net to help search for these flights. I accidentally hit the return button instead of one way and all these new fares came up starting at $150.00. Sorry for the long winded intro however does anyone know of any other airlines that fly direct between these two cities or should I buy a return ticket and just ditch the return sector. I think this is a no brainer however I thought I would ask the question. Thanks in advance:)

Thanks AA, you don't mind me calling you AA .......... :D

I have looked at that option however time is not on my side.

As you say, it's a no brainer. Book a return fare and ditch the return leg.

Alternatively, you could go with Air Berlin, via Berlin for under $200 oneway. Yes it's not direct, but it's direct to Germany!

Book the return and ditch the return flight :)

I've done that a couple of times in the past and all was Ok. My next one will also be departing from Rome (but heading to Amsterdam) on Alitalia which is booked as a return, but will be ditching the return leg.

Forget Ryanair you will spend your whole day just getting to and from the airport. Just ditch the return sector or even ring up and cancel when you get to Rome. You probably won't see your money but at least the airline can go sell the seat.

I went through exactly the same thing last week trying to fly between St. Petersberg & Frankfurt. I needed to be in Frankfurt to continue my DONE4, and one-way was over $800. Return was half the price, so I've booked it and I'll dump the return, I don't intend to call though as there will be no refund anyway!

Thanks to all..................... like I originally said it's a no brainer. I have tried Air Berlin, GermanWings (very good airline by the way) Its looks like I will be ditching $30 AUD plus tax. I loose more at the casino and I don't even blink.
Thanks again ................. Bolthead
