Was reading this yesterday (for work) and thought that some here may like to read it as well and get something from it. So, courtesy of AMP Capital (a 2 page summary of):

Risks and opportunities for airport assets

The airline industry has always been subject to ups and downs, usually related to the economic cycle but often related to one-off events. Here we look at the future risks and opportunities for airport assets and the potential effect they may have on airport valuations.

I see Auckland just bought into Queenstown Airport.

Now they have released a video

Greg MaClean, Head of Infrastructure Research, AMP Capital Investors, dicusses (sic):
  • Some of the top challenges affecting airports
  • An airport's key sources of revenue
  • Potential threats
  • What he looks for in an airport asset

Hello Lindsay,I was always embarassed to say I was a MAP(Sydney airport and others) shareholder but after buying the units low and selling them high I relaxed about it.
Mrs Cove still thinks they are robber barons and I am the troll.
She fits Australian toll roads in the same "rb" asset class but again if you buy low....you can ignore the Mrs.
Thanks for posting the video.
Are you coming to Perth again for dinner?

Was speaking to 2 of my biggest clients over there today. I would hope to have another trip there within the next 2 months. Hopefully will be 2 nights (so we'll be able to arrange dinner for 2nd night).

My travelling for the FY is just starting with a 2 day trip to MEL in 2 weeks.

They have and it’s not going down too well with the locals. The local paper has the story and a few big businesses and influential people are trying to stop the deal. Not sure why, but I think some of them think that if Auckland buys in they’ll push more flights through there, so not direct, but that seems like a very odd reason. It’s also public sale of the towns assets, not unlike Blight!

During a presentation today from AMP Capital's on Infrastructure Assets, their Fund Manager had a most interesting reasoning behind why they invest in Australia Pacific Airports Corporations (MEL and LST airports) and a chart of year on year passenger growth trends, giving as comparison MEL, FRA and the operators of all Paris-based airports.

See Page 7 for APAC and Page 8 for the pax growth chart.

Interesting timing given Tiger launched their AVV services today and also announced some new routes incl AVV-BNE and AVV-CBR. That must be making the other Lindsay smile!
