Rex will open a temporary "lounge" at Canberra Airport from next Monday, when it starts CBR-SYD flights.

It will be in the old international departures area, which is currently disused for obvious reasons.

Apparently, all Rex passengers flying CBR-SYD will be given access to the lounge for the first 3 months as a promotional offer. But lounge guests will only be entitled to one complimentary non-alcoholic beverage - additional drinks and snacks will cost extra.

This is tempting me to make a slight "detour" on my way back from a wedding in OOL next month but I don't think the routing OOL-MEL-CBR-SYD-BNE will work out...

This has to be the funniest thing I've seen all day. They've put a soda machine in the old international terminal and are calling it a lounge 🤣

But ....
The airline says that paid-up Rex Lounge members “will enjoy other benefits in line with existing lounge offerings”, which presumably means they won’t have to pay extra for a beer, wine or snack

A “state-of-the-art business lounge”, no less. 😂

At least it’s a lot bigger than their real lounges.

On second thought if QF wanted to live up to their "predatory" title they should operate a once a day CBR-AKL flight around the same time as one of the REX services. I suspect that would close down the REX lounge rather quickly.

Got to remember that only 34 pax per flight so they won’t need that much space. Nor can anyone expect designer furniture etc. Wonder if there’s even a future for Rex on the route once VA returns with Alliance, so having temporary area makes sense. But hey let’s not spare the chance to stick a boot into them. After all of its not Qantas its just not good enough

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

At least Rexy is having a go and doing something different, they are trying to build a customer base before VA2 bumbles in I think.

Looking at some work related day trips over the next few weeks up to Sydney from Canberra, at $99 each way they're going to get my money. As it only takes 20 minutes to get from home to the airport in Canberra, I'm not too worried about the lounge, but I will stick my nose in to see what it's like. I remember using their previous incarnation in 2002, tucked in underneath what used to be the Golden Wing Lounge. It was small, but did the job.

After over a month of being open, has anyone actually been into the Rex lounge in CBR. I guess you might even spot some MP's now:

With Rex now exiting SYD-CBR, you would have to think they won't bother opening a more permanent lounge. Hardly seems worth it for a single daily CBR-MEL flight.

Let me guess they're blaming Qantas for this 😂

Regardless Canberra airport will eventually want the space back from Rex so they can use the Rex airline lounge International departures area for its intended purpose. Rex would be much better off working with a coffee shop in the terminal to have a small reserved area and shout people a coffee when they're in business class or have status in the coming soon maybe frequent flyer program.

It’s a major piece of the puzzle for the big two, are they delusional or something in that they thought Virgin would never launch on it again?

However interesting to note that the airport charges on this route are not classed as regional, which explains the higher airfares on this route historically.

The Rex Canberra lounge is no more. The area has been taken over by the international departures lounge again.

As far as I'm aware, Rex is not building a replacement as they said they would last year.
