REX Financially Secure?

Just adding a data point.

Looking at last minute airfares to MEL-BNE for mid-friday afternoon next week.

Y travel, one way.

QF $699
JQ $499
VA $299
REX $399 (J $449)

Virgin have more flight options, but therefore more capacity to sell. But offering lower fare than Rex - so Rex yield probably looking ok…….

(yes, single reference point, but looking way better than previously for them)

My MEL/SYD return with Rex this week was very full

Colleague paid $1800 for DBO-MEL return last weekend. Fair price to get out of DBO:)

Good news for their sustainability, no doubt the school holidays and peak travel demand helped them in September.

Extremely bad news for Virgin and their plans however. This will be a very very interesting game to watch.

That’s not bad considering their planes were flying around pretty empty until they did that deal with whomever to allow travel agents to book.

Initially in July and August you would have had 20 people on a flight MEL-SYD, and business would have been mostly free upgrades.

A lot has changed. My 3pm the other day was almost full in all classes, with maybe half of business class paying given the seat map when online chicken opened.

A USA Private Equity firm has acquired a 5% minority stake in REX (ZL) with 2 of the Singaporean businessmen selling their stakes and exiting the Singapore consortium that has majority control of REX.

Any plans to upgrade the lounges anytime soon? Pretty terrible if you ask me. Having been in the Sydney one last week. Hand written notes on the walls, paint peeling, Fantastic Noodles....I noted the appliances are also from BIGW and Kmart.

You don't need to spend a motza to make a lounge look good. Simple things like fresh paint, new artwork, new furniture, new TV's, new carpet, more modern signage around the place etc..

Helps to take your mind off the state of play with Bonza though :)
