This was part of a press release relating to Rex moving into the (proper part) of the old Ansett terminal at Sydney. Note the last line or so, bit of a watch this space. Anybody have any gossip?

"Finally, this move to the main terminal takes us one step closer to offering Rex passengers complete access and hassle free connections to either Qantas, Virgin Blue international carriers and any new entrant in the domestic airline market. Negotiations to finalise our Interline Agreements with all the major international and domestic airlines are almost completed, as is our development of a comprehensive frequent flyer and partnership program," Mr Jones said.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

They have released their plans, for most FF's not worth worrying about, but for those who frequent regional areas in NSW, VIC, SA (& TAS) this is what they have come up with (ie 10 retns = 1 retn like QF at the basic level 20 x 1000 points = 20,000 points = 1 retn). Also note the Rex Lounge - maybe worthwhile considering if you are ever go to CBR - simply to get away from the madhouse in the Q Club in CBR during the late afternoon.

Program Details
Rex Flyer, our new frequent traveller program, is based on a no-nonsense, straightforward concept.

Take nine flights with Regional Express and the tenth flight is on us. Free.* On the house. (And on the plane, of course). No miles to count up. No complex calculations. Just pay for nine flights and we'll give you the tenth flight, free of charge. Could it be any simpler? We doubt it. It's just good country commonsense. Easy to understand. Easy to keep track of. Join before June 30, 2003. Earn your first free flight after just five flights!

If you join Rex Flyer, and fly at least one sector before June 30, 2003, you'll only have to fly five times before you earn your first free flight. (Of course, after that, it reverts to one free flight for every nine). So, may we suggest that now would be an excellent time to join? Each sector counts as one flight.

For those interested in the only alternative FF program for domestic travel (apart from OW partners) .... redeemed a return flight to MQL the other day to visit brother & family. Had to organise in hurry as rewards flights only valid for six months  but at least they sent out a reminder, as I didn't realise this was the case. Rang up about 20 hrs before flight, got a seat no problems on earlier flight (not on later flight - not even paying pax could get a seat on that flight) & return 2 days later (on a flight that was @91% load). Well on the way to my second reward, especially as they will be doubling credits in January, and have some flights to make then.

Useful for me as I have rellies at some of their ports, but otherwise destinations are limited - although wouldn't say no to a weekend in Merimbula or Tassie. You can't save points for that first class RTW trip (which you probably don't have time to take anyway), however it probably does mean a weekend away in somewhere you mightn't otherwise bother with.

Only problem tha I can see is the "take ten flights, get one for free" regime.

What if you take ten short flights and want to redeem a long flight? Or if your mix of flights has one or two short flights, one or two medium-distance flighs, and the rest are long flights, and you want to redeem a long flight?

I thing that "take ten get one free" is far too simplistic and won't work when the push comes to shove. You need raw numbers for earning and raw numbers for redemptions to make it all work.

My 2 cents.

Totally agree with you if you're an airline that's flying jets around the world, or even from one side of a continent to the other. But if you're just flying SAAB 340's & metroliners, like Rex does, there really isn't much of a difference in flight lengths - they're all around that 1 hr mark (except perhaps SYD to Broken Hill & Mildura), so I think for Rex the fly nine get one free system works just fine. Certainly better than nothing!

Nevertheless, for the likes of DJ a variation on the take ten get one free, which involves two tiers, could be OK - say 1000 miles being the difference between short and long flights - take 5 longs or 10 shorts - get a free short flight, take 10 longs or 20 shorts - get a free long flight .

What is the shortest/cheapest flight that Rex offers? Mileage run time!

cheers Peter
