What's the typical upgrade amount required on SYD-MEL? Minimum is $45.
Remember statistically, all successful bids are, on probability, not the minimum that was actually required to be successful (unless you've bid Rex's min), i.e. while one's sitting there smugly in J, the probability is that there is some other bidder who paid less. And so all you and all others had to do was equal that lowest person's bid. So "typical" or average successful price paid on a route is not average minimum successful price.

Just my thoughts, I'm sure that there are professional purchasing people who know more about the psychology of tendering for multiple available goods.

I've done several flights/bids on my milk run between bne and syd, and am successful most times bidding the minimum.
 
This one is my parents MEL-CBR return end of November.

Offered $45, email received to say not successful 4 days out, email 3 hours before flight to say successful (both mum and dad)

CBR-MEL
Offered $45, J full, unsuccessful email 4 days out

Lol. I can finally use priority pass!!
YMMV, but I have seen a person turned away with Priority Pass because the lounge was too full even with just Business/upgraded pax. This was during an extended delay/cancellation for a lot of rex flights, so not common, but still a possibility.
 
Bid successful today for MEL-SYD, $75.

Possibly a little hefty, but cancelled my VA flight so still pocketed around $100!

The cabin is showing its age but it’s in a pretty sweet ‘regional international’ configuration. Can’t touch the front bulkhead, generous recline, and fully extendable + thickly padded leg rests! Solid bulkhead walls separating the cabins, and a full curtain.

Successful today, ZL332 SYD-BNE today 10:20, for the bottom bid of $45 submitted last night (J7 in EF). Got also to "enjoy" the Rex Lounge in SYD T2.

Is REx accepting so many bids as successful such that they literally has to keep out upgrades to stop the lounge from becoming too crowded?

or is it just a spiteful move to remind upgrades that they are not really full j class and thus not entitled to enjoy their lounge?

Possibly a bit of both. By most accounts, Rex is not selling many business class tickets - most people are sitting there on cheap upgrades.

I actually didn't know it would have been excluded. I rocked up to the lounge entry, the agent checked visually that my BP showed 'Business' and let me in no questions asked. Perhaps he either didn't recall the new rule, didn't check in full or simply didn't mind. The lounge was near capacity.
 
Rex seems to have stopped the "you've been outbid" emails. Today I went straight to: you've missed out.
Got a 'you've been outbid' email from Rex this morning.

Am flying MEL-SYD on Thursday and have bid $50 so just above the minimum. I'm not desperate for an upgrade to J as it's a $99 fare and I'm booked into seat 3A for a further $15. Seat map is showing 5 J seats free (not the most reliable indicator of course).
