Hi, is it possible to use my virgin points to book reward flights or upgrade on etihad? There are flights on etihad website Brisbane to Venice via Abu Dhabi but on virgin website Venice is not a destination (though obviously virgin fly to Abu Dhabi)

You will be able to use Velocity points to fly from Brisbane to Europe on Etihad, however Etihad do not fly to Venice. You could fly into Rome or Milan (or another city that Etihad fly to) however. If you can't see the flights online, try calling Velocity.

Subject to availability you can book business (or first) class, however you won't be able to use your points to upgrade on any Etihad flight.

I went to Venice a couple of years ago. Flew Etihad J on a VA reward to Dusseldorf (and stayed a couple of nights to check out Dusseldorf!) and then Air Berlin (paid ticket, not points) to Venice.

You could fly to Milan then catch a train over to Venice. BNE-AUH-MXP on points.
