Hi

I have a reward booking with JAL, made through Qantas, in business, from Sydney to New York with a stop in Tokyo. The flight from Tokyo to New York has now been moved earlier, which means it now departs before our flight from Sydney to Tokyo even lands (by 6 hours).

I have spoken to Qantas. Currently there are no other options available, especially in business. They have escalated it and have said that a Oneworld representative would be in contact within 5 days.

What options do I have here? Is it likely that I will now loose these flights?

I'm assuming you're not travelling solo by use of "our", which is a shame as there is a U (J) seat available on September 15 SYD-DFW

There is good I availability (the class they normally require to release extra reward seats) SYD-LAX on September 16. You'd have to pay your own way to JFK but at least you'd have the long haul in J. No guarantees they'll release the seats, but this is your best option at the moment. Asking for anything else (ex MEL, into JFK) is most certainly going to be a hard no, unless JAL come to the party - which is not likely.

Other option is book economy award or pay your own way to Tokyo and pick up your award flight in J.

Perhaps I'm misreading the revised itinerary but it seems like you are arriving into Haneda at 17:05 the following day whilst your flight to JFK takes off at 11:00 the following day, implying that the rebooked itinerary is invalid (unless QF provides you with a time machine of course).

Would it not be possible for QF to simply book them into either SYD > LAX or SYD > DFW where there is U space on QF, then book the remaining portion as an American economy saver award, where I have no doubts there would be availability (remember New York has three ports: LGA, JFK, and EWR)? The benefit there is they won't be out of pocket for the ticket, would be protected from misconnects and won't have to pay extra for baggage!
