Revolut card Ultra plan

As Revolut get bigger and offer more and more things it seems like their fees, and FX margins get bigger. I guess it appeals to some, but all I used it for was for spending money when overseas. Seems Wise may now offer better FX rates. I don't need more points as I do not spend enough.
Your comment about not needing any more points is always 100% wrong....you can never have enough

In the absence of a sign on points bonus I'm struggling to get the numbers to work for this.

I have applied for and been approved for the credit card too. 1.3pts/dollar spent which for most transfer parters is still below Amex but for BA/IB/AY/EI it is 1:1. So if you’re after Avios it’s a reasonable alternative to Amex. And if you want the FT it’s a good addition to Amex ;). I also use the Nord VPN service and there’s 3GB per month of eSIM data for overseas use.

The credit card is Visa Infinite
are both your original (Ultra) debit and credit cards Visa Infinite?

are your virtual Visa cards the same tier?

i wonder what tiers they would be as Mastercard?

and what happens if one downgrades plan - do they issue new lower tier cards?

Debit is a Mastercard and credit is a Visa

On the Revolut app they are both designated as ‘Platinum’

But in my Apple Wallet, the credit card has ‘Infinite’ inscribed under the Visa logo

I don’t have the Mastercard in my digital wallet because I try never to spend my own money 😉

Neither of the physical cards gives anything away … they are both just annotated ‘Ultra Member’

you can remove cards from your Apple Wallet after adding them ;)

those are for your original card numbers?

what if you create new virtual cards? are they still Visa Infinite, World Elite/Legend/Debit (assuming highest Mastercard tiers as per Visa)

was your debit card also Platinum when Metal, with the same number?

Yes, thanks @qaz, I am aware of that.

I have just added my Debit card to Apple wallet - it doesn’t say anything except Ultra Member

The debit card is a new number; no idea if it were platinum or not. Didn’t previously have a credit card, obviously

The virtual cards just indicate ‘virtual’ and the nickname that you’ve given them (eg online shopping). The disposal card has disposable written on it

Revolut UK has opened an IHG debit card which looks good. I don't think there is any way of accessing it as a non-tax resident of UK though. Hoping for something similar here

Trying to work out how the Ultra (credit card) compares to the Amex Platinum for accruing points and travel.

I've signed up for the Metal plan (slightly lower points per dollar (PPD) spent) as a companion for the Amex but the earn rates on Revolut are more compelling than Amex so will likely put most of my future spending through the Revolut. Am I missing or misunderstood anything from the below?

Revolut Ultra Credit Card
+ Higher earn rate for common transfer partners except QF/VA/SQ (and can transfer to Avios at 1.3 PPD vs 0.75 PPD for domestic redemptions on QF via BA and VA via QR. Even SQ is not too far off at 0.65 PPD vs 0.75 PPD for Amex).
+ Good airline partners including BA for Avios, A3/AV/TK for Star Alliance and AF/KL/SK for SkyTeam
+ Comparable international lounge access to Priority Pass offered by Amex
+ Visa card is accepted in more places than Amex
+ No international transaction fees
+ Can upgrade/downgrade plan as needed (minimum notice period applies) to save on fees if circumstances change

Amex Platinum
+ Bonus points on sign-up (but this may be hard to replicate regularly since Amex discourages churning)
+ Centurion lounge access at selected airports with guest
+ VA lounge access for domestic flights with guest (although this can be mitigated by redeeming J rewards since the Ultra's transfer rate is nearly 2x better)
+ DL lounge access when flying DL
+ Priority Pass permits one guest while I believe Revolut's LoungeKey does not
+ More transfer partners, including hotels and EDR and additional airlines via Marriott (but at a lower effective 0.5 PPD) (I'm not sure how valuable this is considering Revolut seem to cover the major carriers)
+ Hotel statuses including two free nights with Accor Explorer, Hilton, Marriott and Radisson
+ Lower annual fee if flight / dining credits are fully utilised

I upgraded to the Metal plan and am keeping both as I think the AMEX Platinum Charge is still ahead in value compared to the Ultra plan (how I use the benefits anyway). What I'd really like is a list of places that individuals have confirmed the Revolut card doesn't earn points.

So far:
- Sydney Water (no points)
- Activ gift cards through giftz.com.au (no points and charged cash advance interest)
- William Clarke College (no points)
- NRMA Insurance (no points)

I know that utilities, education and insurance are classed as places you are likely not to earn points according to the T&Cs.

Good point on the ineligible spending. I don't think I have too much of those, but I'll likely keep the Metal and Platinum Charge for the foreseeable future and reassess towards the end of the year (my Plat annual fee is due in Jan).

I’ve got the Ultra so can’t really comment on your maths but from my perspective the Ultra is better for BA/SQ/EK which are my main redemption choices. The only thing missing for me is CX

I have the Amex Plat too which covers the gaps (which is a bit sad because it was always my go-to card but with all the ‘enhancements’ it just isn’t any more. And of course with their dogged determination to hang on to forex fees makes it much less competitive abroad)

So far:
- Sydney Water (no points)
Pay via PayPal ….. no fees and full points with Amex Plat
