Anybody noticed that for the past few months the curtain on 737 services is normally closed? I have not seen this done for a number of years.

And whilst it was generally acceptable for passengers in the first few rows of Y to use the toilet in J - aparently this is no longer allowed (and rightly so if the curtain is to be closed). But the other day I was flying BNE - MEL and the crew did not close the curtain - but the head steward proceeded to tell individual Y passengers trying to use the front toilet to go to the back of the plane (I was in 4D so I could hear the conversation).

I thought that was pretty poor form on her behalf, either close the curtain or make an announcement that Y passengers are to use the rear of the plane.

I know they are probably trying to preserve the value on the J seats (and let's face it, there's not much on J 737 flights) but for 12 passengers I'm not sure they need the curtain.

Yes this has been happening on and off for the past few months although the curtains have been open on my last few flights. Personally I would prefer the curtain closed as I would not want the outcasts up front to infiltrate the main cabin. :p

And don't mention economy class passengers using business class toilets. Some regular business class travellers could have a heart attack. ;)

I totally agree JohnK! I never perambulate down the back of the plane to use the rear ablutions. I'd appreciate the same common courtesy.

As for curtain.... I prefer it to be shut. It just lets the "back pax" know that the front section is off limits during the flight. It's been a long long while since I have been in the back of a plane but I do seem to recall a placard advising pax not to pass the curtain area except in case of an emergency.

bossreggie,

I knew you would pop up in this thread.

The widebodies I have been on recently all had the curtains closed after takeoff so I guess it is across the board now that they are restricting Y pax entering the J cabin.

3 out 4 trips over the ANZAC weekend for me were 737 services, curtain remained open for all of them.

I haven't seen it often lately either, to be honest. Maybe once or twice (and I fly on 737's regularly SYD/BNE/SYD).
Was on a 738 on Tuesday and it remained open.

Do you think the economy class passengers were angry with me when I used their toilet after getting an op-up last Friday? :p Plus the curtain was not closed after takeoff. ;)

Without sounding rude is the (non) closing of the curtain another example of poor inconsistent service from some Qantas cabin crew?

Not at all JohnK... An op-up gives you free reign of the aircraft!!

IMHO... A J/F can be an "honorary" Y any time they please.

I often find myself wondering why people woud put themselves through the trauma of those cramped seats and high ratio of pax per FA and toilet, when there are perfectly good, way more comfortable empty seats up front?! It beggars belief.

I can think of a number of rea$on$..

You can stop wondering. It is mainly due to lack of funds. For someone like me 40 SYD-BNE returns a year would cost ~$44,000 in business class or $7,000 in economy. I would then need a second job in Brisbane to fund the business class travel.

Personally I prefer to sit in cramped seat for a few hours and treat myself to another (or more) overseas holiday with the money saved.

I was in J on a BA A321 flight the other day where the curtain was closed, but it didn't stop a constant flow of Y class passengers coming through the cabin and then slamming the bloody dunny door when ever they came in or left. FA's did nothing to stop them. Considering the cost of the fare you would think they would keep the rabble where they belong, which is behind the curtain.

SYD-BNE flight tonight on a 738 and curtain remained open for duration of flight.

I trust the pesky J pax did not annoy you at all John.;)
No but I did get a hug from one the business class passengers after I found one of their pencils on the floor in front of my seat. ;)

Also used the business class toilet but this time I did not walk through the cabin to use it as I used it as soon as I boarded. Seriously that toilet is tiny and I would much rather use the toilets at the back. :p

Are the toilets at the back bigger?

If so I may take a walk next time to try them out.

From memory they are bigger unless I am confusing myself with the toilets on a 767.

May have to take my tape measure with me on Friday night. :p

John,

Taking a tape measure into the toilet make get you some strange looks:shock:
