Return flight without leaving the airport

I've done it to Noumea on a status run. Qantas seemed to know the routine and had someone meet me and another traveler, escort us out through immigration and back through check in and immigration again, and usher us to the lounge with time for 2 glasses of bubbles before boarding the same plane to come back !

Several years ago I went PER -SIN and back, transit for about 12 hours, didn't go through customs.
No issues, no questions.

When I was living in Thailand , I frequently day tripped from BKK to ports PEN, KUL, or SIN to comply with Thai 90 day visa requirements. Never a problem.

Some some these flights are OK if you only have a short time before returning, but if you have to wait some time what are you going to do, work in the lounge? I would have about a nine hour wait so going into the city for a look-see is attractive.

Once outside the SW Pacific, international day trips are not uncommon. From SIN I've done them to KUL, SGN, CGK, and BKK for meetings. It's basically just like domestic travel in Australia or the US. (in fact pet peeve of mine is corporate travel policies written in the US that require higher level approval for "international travel", so going from Singapore to KL requires higher approval than someone travelling 4-6 hrs from SYD-PER or East Coast-West coast in US, which basically only needs manager approval, but I digress).

I actually did this several years ago, when A380s were still new. I wanted to go on one but my wife has claustrophobia and can't do long flights, which was where A380s were used. Then Emirates introduced DXB-BNE-AKL so she gave me some points for me to fly Economy BNE-AKL and I used some of mine for Business AKL-BNE.

My wife dropped me off at BNE in the morning, then, when I got to AKL, I went straight to the lounge and had a thoroughly enjoyable time both in the lounge and on the return flight before my wife picked me up in the evening at BNE. Nobody batted an eyelid.

I flew SYD-LAX once, got cold feet and returned the same day.
I was never questioned or asked about it ever again. And I've been back to the USA over half dozen times since.

Cold feet. That's interesting. Please tell more, if you are happy to that it.

Forget the seasons are reversed?

I did a day trip to Australia from NZ. Leave 6 am, arrive about 8 am, in Sydney CBD by 9 am, client visit then back to the airport and back to WLG by 12:00 am. No questions asked anywhere, but then I just looked like any other business traveller.

That seems to be quite a normal business trip from NZ. At least you spent the day in Sydney, rather than flying back at 9.30am ;)
