Restricted EY award seats?

Just a thought, as the Olympics are in Paris next year could this have any affect on availability? Why would they release too much reward bookings if they can sell to passengers going to Olympics?

I have been looking for flights to Europe too and haven't found any.
They aren’t even releasing short ME flights far in advance currently. There used to be great availability on those routes

Interestingly there now seems to be AUH-LHR First Class availability on many days up to 16 days out from now, and LHR-AUH up to 22 days out from now. These seats are NOT available via Etihad Guest, or Aeroplan, so I wonder if it’s phantom, but it does seem odd to be phantom since it’s only close-to-departure dates that are showing. I haven’t tried to book personally.

There also a grand total of 5 business class seats available until late January via Velocity (4 in one direction, one in the other) on this route.

Not necessarily a question about the seat releases being restricted but I've noticed that VA is arbitrarily restricting routings too with EY (and other partners).

I was trying to book an EY AMM-CMN which I know EY serves and I know there is J availability on the seperate sectors connecting through AUH. Why does VA not allow you to book a routing through their website like this on a single ticket?

Use below link and play with dates - an award is showing on the date I chose.

Edit - Cannot make it work on a direct sector. Might have to call unfortunately.

Yeah it isn't a direct sector but it's a route that EY serves for both sectors, I'm wondering why VA doesn't surface these types of redemptions. I manipulated the URL and booked this in J through the VA site:
