How come I have been trying all day and AA's centre gives me an engaged number 1-800-673-486 sourced off AA.com

Do I have the right number?
 
My suggestion is that US 1-800 numbers do not work when dialled from outside the US.
 
Didn't AA cancel a whole heap of flights this morning? I think I saw that on CNN.

My next suggestion is that maybe they are a tad busy rebooking people.
