I know this has been discussed previously but I just need to vent.

I had two domestic flts. yest. to return to my home. It was the end of my o/s trip and I wasn't feeling that great.

The f.a. asked me on the final domestic flt. if I would move up one row to window from my aisle seat as couple who were boarding were travelling together as they each had window seat next to me and the row before mine.

I have been asked this before and said yes but as I was feeling yuk and thought it was on the cards i may need the restroom a few times I said no.

The person in aisle seat in front of me said he would swap and did this w/out being asked.

Why, then, did I feel like I had committed a crime (slightly over the top, but not by far). I didn't give the reason why for my answer, maybe I should have but then I have choices. My flt. was booked 3-4 mo's ago, unsure if that means a hill of beans.

I thought abt. speaking with the f.a. quitely and explaining how uncomfortable it made me asking if I would swap in front of the cabin and that perhaps better to bend down to the person and making the request privately.

Anyway left me with a yukky feeling directed at myself.

I often get asked too and it sometimes makes me feel annoyed that they do this. Sometimes for some flights, I check and check and everyday make sure I still have the seat I want, and when I check in, I get it. Then on the plane, I will get asked, because someone wants to sit together or something. What do you say when you travel by yourself? Most of the time I will do it, but as you have experienced, I have said No before and felt like the most unkind person.

I wouldn't worry about it, I think it's just human behaviour to feel like that .... it really sucks that they ask you in front of the other people or tend to speak it out loud, and that other people around you offer if you say no.

We are entitled to say no though, that's what we have to remember

I don't feel bad about saying no ; I don't mind someone asking, but conversely I don't believe that their asking commits me to answering yes

If I have a seat that I don't specifically want and the other seat is also an aisle seat, then I'll say yes, otherwise no

I see what you are saying Dave.
When does the fine line come in as per the Qantas terms of carriage?

"Qantas does not guarantee you any particular seat even if your reservation is confirmed."

Indeed.. they can change seat allocation... I don't think that they will go and get a seat change done in the system and get new boarding passes to force the change to satisfy another passenger's desire to sit next to someone specific

If they are requesting an informal change of seating, then I am happy to decline if it doesn't suit

After getting a BP at checkin, I have been issued 2 BP's once I was in the QF JLounge. They said they had to keep moving me because they had to seat some CL people together

I still got a forward window though .... just further back.

I find it unusual that you were asked to move from an aisle to a window seat - unless the plane was extemely full and this was the only option.

There is nothing wrong with saying 'no' but just remember next time you are flying with friends/colleagues or family and have been split seated - don't be surprised (or start whinging) if you are on the receiving end of the 'no' answer!

If I had been asked (in hearing space of other pax) I would have said nice and loudly, sorry normally I would but am feeling unwell and want to be able to get up quickly should I have to run for the toilet! Hmmm, that would keep people at a distance!

At least they told you where you were moving! A few weeks ago I was in an aisle seat in about row 10 when the FA came and asked me to move so a couple could be seated together.

Being a 6am flight and I wasn't totally switched on I agreed only to find myself in the middle seat in the last row!

It is QF policy to move passengers around after checkin to accomodate a CL member's request to sit with another PAX.

They will not do the same for a QF Platinum or below.

If travelling with an infant on an international flight they will politely ask the checked in CL member if they mind moving out of a bassinet position but this is a request only and ultimately up to the person.

On a domestic flight with bassinet (eg 767) QF will NOT ask a checked in CL member with bassinet position to shift for baby.

I mean that I doubt that the cabin crew member would go back to the gate agent and get the seat moved and get a new boarding pass issued after asking the person to move and them saying no thanks
