Requalify for gold with only 110SC

Which is how different to the Qantas person mentioned in post #20 :?:

Totally different!

Firstly no status match to Plat :)

That person lives in the Gold Gold was Plat and has slowly moved away from Qantas, well, because they don't fly to/from the Gold Coast

Now with new flights to SYD they want this person to start flying Qantas on this route again!

I think it was a very smart move!

Let's remember that next time Qantas offers you double SCs.

Drawing a long bow comparing multiply years of elite status to a DSC offer

As a 16+ year member, I've only ever received one (this year) DSC or anything offer........

Seems a fair comment for when you get your next DSC offer. going to get a bit tired?

And how do you feel about the 2 or 3 DSC offers I've received?

Indeed

Virgin 400 SC normally for gold
Qantas 600/700

So based on earning 110SC to retain gold, Qantas would need to offer a 6X SC offer to be compared  to the "Virgin please fly us again" offer

It took 16 years for the first one......not holding my breath for the next one!

Now that's a long bow if ever there was. Not to mention the SC are not comparable in that way. DJ SC are harder to get.

But are you the exception or the rule :?:

More likely the former from what I have seen lately. SWMBO had 2 double SC offers (from Qantas) running concurrently for pretty much the last six months. I have had at least 3 double SC offers.

QANTAS have handed out quite a few double SCs in recent times.

I was sitting at 485 SC and just prior to taking another trip I rung velocity because I had SC expiring whilst I was mid journey to see if I could get bumped up to Gold as technically I was earning them before the required date but they wouldn't hit my account in time.

The foreign lady placed me on hold to check with someone. Was on hold for a good 5 - 10 mins. When she came back she said 'Unfortunately Mr ***** you have to fly to earn an extra 15SC to reach gold'.

Flew my trip and as expected my SC didn't credit my account in time before old ones expired so I remained at 485 SC. The very next business day (monday) I received this in my inbox:

Dear Mr *****,
In appreciation of your loyalty and in recognition of being so close to achieving a Status upgrade, we would like to reward you with Velocity Gold membership."

Now I'm not complaining but why couldn't the lady on the phone do this for me so I could maybe enjoy Gold benefits on then current trip. I was at the same SC balance before and after.

I earned my SC the hard way flying only Saver & Flexi fares so had about 20 eligible sectors to my name.

Oddly enough, Gold is merely a mid-tier level. So maybe VFF aren't too worried about "overcomping" on Golds compared to Platinums, since the latter is supposed to be more exclusive

Key word, supposed, to be. I don't find the experience as a platinum any different to when I was a gold, or silver with lounge. For that matter, the flight itself is identical to back when I was a red member. I guess I get from A to B so I don't know what I expect, but it makes the loyalty to Virgin for status seem like a waste.

Is it the same flying Qantas ? I have only ever flown Virgin. But there are options from my home port now (OOL)

Why do that :?: Qantas does not so why should Virgin :?:
QANTAS also does not do a full scale assault status match and then give away another year of status, so I'm not sure why you use this comparison in this instance :?:
I made the statement to suggest that if virgin was giving the goods to status matched 'customers' how about some perks for the loyal customers?

Everyone's value proposition is different, but as a Gold or Platinum you should be able to get better seating compared to that as a Silver, or Red. You definitely get lounge access (unless you had a Virgin Lounge subscription, and even then the latter is more on a restricted basis).

As a Platinum member, when separate lounges come out for Virgin, that should be another point in favour of higher status.

IMO, the differential benefits of status as you go up the scale are more pronounced through international travel. Domestically, it's rather more subtle.

I do not begrudge anyone on here getting compted or not earning status credits congratulations to you all. I earnt over 3900 SC with DJ and what it has said to me is that ok you dont get more than around 800 to a 1000SC off me now and as QF have returned to OOL and offered double status credits I can do five OOL SYD ADL returns in J class and get Platinum. I will just book and pay for my work trips before 30 November as I have to be there each Month for the next 12. They wish to forget loyality, so will I and send $7000 worth of domestic travel to Qantas.

Word of warning (in my best Garth voice): do you get DJ operational upgrades? If so, are they useful to you? I'm a 800 to 1000 SC platinum. I don't get any upgrades to speak of.

Never but I have had a op down a few times but they were handled with care.

Luck of the draw, I has 12 op ups in the past year, it depends on where you fly, strangely enough my regional visits occur often during school hols, resulting in frequent op ups in both airlines cabins.

I'm resigned to the fact that I'm not special.

i was hoping to keep my platinum with my 100SC's. I'll have to put up with a soft landing to gold. Maybe they will throw us some more random free upgrades during the year

Free would have been nice but I am happy with 7200 points being burned to turn my OOL-SYD-MEL roundtrip at $149 each way in to a J one next week.

As Qantas improves (repairs) their routes they can hand out sweeteners but Virgin cannot. Is that what you are saying :?:

You need to look at the relative positions of the two airlines when making that comment. Virgin maturing into adulthood versus Qantas the established (supposedly) mature adult.

Virgin did a once off status match for those who applied and then are 'selectively' dangling some carrots. Qantas are selectively dangling some carrots. Is it really so different :?:

The loyal customers got a free upgrade credit. Also from my personal experience Virgin have been a lot more user friendly when asked about things from out of left field.
