Hey,

Short Version:
I'm sitting land side at BOM wanting to leave (CX750 to HKG). The problem was that when I tried to clear immigration they said that was too early and that they could not process me yet.
I am about 10h early. My plan was to sit in the lounge, relax, eat, drink and surf all for free. They claim I might do something illegal :? in that time.

Has anyone else had a situation like this.
My annoyances are at, nothing explaining 3 hr rule, was told to get to lounge go through immigration....., CX has showed absolutely no care that I have been inconvienced only to suggest that I try again in 1hr when the shift of workers change as sometimes you get through.

Originally CX wouldn't check me in as they say there is a problem with checked luggage which is too early (CX751 to Dubai), but when I explained I had none they were fine.
If you could let me know if there is anything I should do that would be great. I already have the name of the Manager of Check-In and the Manager on Duty.

Regards,
Mal.

Thats Mumbai (India) right?

Maybe you just look suspicious!!! :)

It might be the Punk hair, or maybe the "shaggy" hair as a result of not getting it cut :D

Seriously, I'm not sure you can do anything. if Immigration at BOM don't want you wandering around the secure area, all you can do is either keep trying or wait. Trying too much might get you in a bit of strife though.

From all accounts, India is an interesting country will all sorts of paperwork and rules when it comes to entry/exit.

Others may have some more relevant experience.

If you are looking for a way to pass the time you could explain to the customs and immigration people that Kashmir should really belong to Pakistan

I am not that surprised that immigration might decline to allow you access 10 hours prior to departure

As far as CX goes, it is not their fault that immigration will not let you through and that you have been inconvenianced

Perhaps pop off for a few hours and come back later

If you have a boarding pass then all you need do is bribe somebody. If your morals are against this then consider the payment a "Departure Tax".

Dave I expected that kind of accurate comment from you. I know that it wasn't really the fault of CX, but they did kind of sit there and say we don't care. Or maybe not as much as I interpreted it as given my annoyance. I think I was mainly annoyed as I haven't heard of this happening before.

After about 1h 30m CX had found a friendly immigration supervisor, so I got put through. Shame on me for doubting they care.

Anyway.

I go to BOM quite often (I'm going again in June), and the Indian staff there are generally very "procedure oriented".

I've had to sit in the check-in areas of the international terminals for hours, because of their intransigence.

Just part of the Indian experience.
