Looking for some creative ideas for regular flights out of north Asia to Australia. Specifically out of Seoul to Sydney or Brisbane. Travel direct on any of the Korean Airlines is convenient, but expensive for multiple pax.

Despite the added travel time I am happy to visit a hub (HKG, SIN, BKK etc) for a one-stop flight home, allowing stopover opportunities as well. I happen to be QF plat so have some OW status, and would like to stay within the alliance if I can. That said, I am significantly driven by price, but also well understand the benefits of having onward bookings with the same airline, or alliance, when flights are delayed.

I have explored a few options, including trying to think outside the square and hubbing via MNL, or even TPE. I have flown Jetstar and Jetstar Asia before, but have never been game to have them as part of a multi-leg trip, unless I allow 24 hours between flights. Conservative I know, but I can't afford to lose the total fare...

Given the wealth of knowledge and creativity on this forum, does anyone have any suggestions? MH is joining OW right? My research thus far indicates CX as the best option for a one-stop flight with the same airline.

I look forward to some ideas.

If travelling in Y, and being completely price sensitive, have a look at the Chinese airlines such as China Southern and Air China. Mind you, such itineraries would be about 16-20 hours one-way, instead of the non-stop option being around 10 hours.

If you want to stay within the OW alliance, then CX is a sensible option (and the lounges in HK are excellent), but you may be able to get JAL via NRT to SYD as well (they don't fly to BNE).

Another option worth considering is the OZ flights to SYD, booked on QF's website as QF367/368. The non-stop flight and the extra frequent flyer points you earn as a plat may well offset the slightly extra cost.

As a side note, QF's website also offers the option of an OZ flight to NRT, and connect you to SYD on QF.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Thanks for that. All good suggestions. I have had a look at JAL via NRT, and while it's one of the shortest routes distance-wise, it's one of the most expensive... The taxes seem to add a lot to the final total.

Ideally I would run with the QF flight number on OZ metal, but I can't help exploring all the options first.

Do you get to Asia often, routing via TPE and picking up a $2K return J trip to Australia can be lucrative.
