I stayed at Mantra Albury recently and thought it was pretty good. Brand new property, modern, good staff, etc.

There are three Quests within Albury/Wodonga. All fit the McDonalds mold of hotels, and I wouldn’t be happy putting a decent car in any of their car parks. Albury is probably the better place to stay, as there are masses of restaurants, etc within walking distance of both Quests.

For something a little different accommodation-wise, there‘s Circa 1928. Or perhaps Porter’s Cottages.

I second Circa 1928 :)

Quest = Macdonalds.. it used to be an American thing to make sure every place is the same, so the punters know what to expect. Years ago Holiday Inn’s tag line was ‘the biggest surprise is no surprise‘ so that you knew exactly where the bedside light switch was, and how the tv worked. Agree Albury gives more dining choices

While I'm about it, here are a few more regional WA trips to come.

I will aim to be back home from the Kununurra trip by about Thursday 8 July. I have AZ Covid-vax #2 on Monday 12 July and need to head back to Newman on 19 July to start an 11-day 4WD tag-along to Rudall River/Karlamilyi NP on 21 July. Back home by about 2 August, followed by a trip to Karijini NP, Coral Bay and Shark Bay in late August.

Then in October, it's fly to Broome to overnight before joining a 12-night voyage back to Fremantle with Coral Expeditions (Abrolhos Islands & the Coral Coast | Broome - Fremantle | 12 Nights | Coral Expeditions).

The June & July trips are solo; the August trip is with PJM (there will be no camping 😜) and my brother & SIL, as is the coastal voyage.

There is no point in sitting still while Covid rages. With very widespread good rains across the SW and extending well into the Pilbara, this winter-spring is shaping up to be a spectacular wildflower season. All the more reason to be getting out and about in St Marko’s Own Covid-free Blessed Country™.

July trip (Google Maps doesn't show detail for Rudall River NP):

That should keep me occupied for a while. 😁

Interesting comment to say the least - but i certainly appreciate the response. TBH I don't consider Quest to be a hotel - self contained units are they not? Well the ones I book certainly are. Simple brekky of tea and toast is what we have at home and heading out for cooked brekky is not what we want.

Anyways I have booked 1 bdr exec apart at Quest Albury on Townsend - having spent fair part of my life in meat processing industry an apartment in an old Hide and Skin Shed tickles my fancy.

Thanks to all who contributed.

Well, it's a suite hotel I guess. I used to use the original Albury one quite a bit, before I moved to the area. My comment re the car park applies to most Quests (and probably many other hotels too). The car parks are very narrow, and anyone who is careless with their door opening will be bound to leave their mark. One of the newer Quests that I stayed in was so bad that I chose to street park a brand new car, as I though it would be safer.

Stayed last night at Quality Hotel Lakeside Bendigo in Executive King Room - $155 for this room is great value - bed wax fabulous - the Ette stayed Shamrock last week and said it was totally pox - would stay here again in a heartbeat - if you do stay here mention Tommy Vexille’s name as he is a kinda godlike figure in this neck of the woods 👍

Brekky was very good - thumbs up all round 👍👍👍

Thur nt in Bendigo we ate at The Woodhouse - ain’t for those with skinny wallets but overall quality is fantastic - this and Wine Bank are the 2 standout eateries in Bendigo IMHO.

Fri to Mon (3 nts) in Quest Albury on Townsend in a 1 Bedroom Apartment - pics here are pinched from web as The Ette checked on first and by the time I arrived it looked like ‘Cyclone Tracey’ had swept in!

Clearly plenty space and is nigh on perfect - bed again is excellent - BUT - Lounge / Kitchen area very poorly lit - toilet seat broken and you end up riding side saddle - carpet inside balcony doors quite wet - next to no bench top space in bathroom - excellent shower so overall very good.

Now did I see upthread someone sookin’ about car parking space size? They seemed plenty big enough to me 👍
