Holiday Inn>Crowne Plaza>Intercontinental?

Last time I stayed there it was Holiday Inn. 🤷‍♂️
It’s been a CP for a very long time! But yes, it will need more than a lick of paint.

Having said that, an Ambassador subscription is looking more worthwhile in Oz if you can use the freebie night!

Interesting news - it's definitely welcome that Canberra is looking at adding a major 5 star brand aside from the Park Hyatt. Here's the release from IHG, and also a link to more pics of the various properties that are now in planning:

News Release: IHG Hotels & Resorts and long-term partner, Salter Brothers, to deliver a number of major Luxury & Lifestyle hotels in Australia

Cheers,
Matt.

In the IHG release only the IC Coogee is for this year.
Melbourne Regent is to open in 2030 but no dates for the others so probably a long wait apart from the Voco refurb.

Early 2000s when I stayed as a HI. Rooms were not exactly huge. Great location opposite the beach and near cafes.

Crowne Plaza Canberra is going to need a lot of work,
Intercon Coogee, is it just an excuse go raise the prices, it will probably be out of my pricr range even more.

Ditto Crowne Plaza Melbourne.
Crowne Plaza Melbourne has never been a holiday inn especially as it had one a block away.
It was built as the Melbourne Central hotel, rebranding under SPHCs portfolio as the Melbourne Centra in 1998.

2006 when SPHC went down it was rebranded as a Crowne Plaza. Interestingly the hotels website completely ignores it SPHC participation and branding.

Crowne Plaza Canberra is going to need a lot of work,
I was there two Sundays ago and it wasn’t bad, certainly better than when it was a Parkroyal. Interestingly I was in the managers flat or part there of on the top floor, which has been converted to individual rooms.

CP Coogee has been closed since early April for what was planned as a six months renovation, including seemingly a new pool area, so it does at least look like a substantial change.
