Refitted 777-200 launched?

Ive just notice as I was selecting seats for our flight on Sunday, we currently seem to have the new refit 777-200 although AirNZ is showing the old seat map online plus when I tried to do a dummy booking, it wouldn't allow me to select seats at this time. We have J seats but will take pics if its the new seats.


Old is PE: 3-3-3, new is 2-4-2



Old Y: 3-3-3, new is 3-4-3
 
When I try to book Y, the seat allocation is not available but if you dummy book J, you get the new config.
 
When I go into manage my booking, I'm still getting the new layout.

I guess I'll know on Sunday.

Air New Zealand will start flights with its refurbished Boeing 777-200ER aircraft on Saturday.
The first flights with the upgraded aircraft will be NZ135 from Auckland to Brisbane and the return service NZ136 on Saturday, August 23, according to the Airline Route website. That will be followed by return services to Sydney on Sunday and Nadi in Fiji on Monday. Flights beyond Monday were expected to be added progressively.
Air NZ has eight Boeing 777-200ERs in its fleet which are used primarily to North America and Asia, but also regularly operate on the trans-Tasman. The old configuration featured 304 seats, with 26 in business, 36 in premium economy and 242 in economy.
There will be an increase of eight seats under the new layout – business will stay at 26 seats, while premium economy will increase to 40 and the number of economy seats rises to 246. The premium economy seat will be the same as Air NZ has just introduced on its Boeing 787-9s and will be in a 2-4-2 layout, compared with 3-3-3 in unreconfigured aircraft.

I didn't get to check out the Y seats because we were all boarded at the same time but I did get a few seconds in the PE seats and thought they had a nice amount of leg room and were comfortable. If I had to do a trip to Japan or SF in PE, I wouldn't complain too much.

The FAs were very proud of their new toys and was explaining the new slimline Y seats meant no reduction in aisle. No idea if its true but they do look slim.

I thought the new IFE was very responsive and only a few issues but they had two techs on board to train/resolve issues.

J seats. Noticed not change to the 773


PE is now 2-4-2 and I though the row had lots of leg room

Toilet just in front of PE has a nice view.
 
Does anyone know which aircraft (registration number or whatever) has the upgraded product? Going to LA in October and hoping the refit is completed by then.

As far as I know, most if not all AKL-LAX routes are done by 777-300s.
Just did a dummy search on Air NZ and found the same, which means you'll have the new product :)

I believe the only one left un-refitted is ZK-OKD, but this is scheduled to be started in October, so odds are definitely on your side for a new one.

The 773's do the regular double daily flights (NZ 1/2 & NZ 5/6), but whenever there is a 3rd daily flight (NZ 3/4), this is operated by a 772. However, it also appears the 789 is doing a couple of flights in the coming month or so, which I presume is to assist with finishing the 772 refits.

Called NZ and the rep said the 772 was the refit so I actually got a sweet deal on my PE fare and I'm thinking about making an offer on the return trip too as it will also be v2 B772 on the way back.

I was told earlier this week by a friend who works this route regularly that all the planes are now refurbished.

I understand the last one is being done now (hence why the 787-9 is doing a few AKL-LAX flights), so for that reason, you're guaranteed a refitted plane if you fly one from now on.

Its nice of AIRNZ giving us A$200 as compensation for getting the old 777-200 ..it means its only cost us A$20 for the upgrade

Hi, So looks like we managed to upgrade to PE(which was actually cheaper than what we planned to offer on the one up) on the new refit 777-200, just after some help with seat selection..

AKL > IAH, 27 A&B selected last seats in the cabin window side. Other seats available are 23 J&K along with some others in the middle blocks of 4, rows 23,25,26)
on our return
IAH>AKL 27 D&E which are also last row but in middle section, other seats available are in the middle blocks of 4, rows 23,25,26)

what are everyones thoughts? is there a preference in PE or are they pretty much all the same. all other window seats are taken where there is only 2 seats On seatguru, only comments are made for the front rows being
-reduced seat width
-tv in arm rest
-armrest not moveable.
which is funny since ANZ consider these are preferred seating and you need to pay more for.

As long as they all recline the same i am not too fussed. But just curious if people have their own experiences or opinions.

From what I've seen/experienced/heard, all seats are identical with width, pitch, recline, etc. I'm pretty certain the front row IFE was on the bulkhead wall, so not so sure about those comments on Seatguru.

Regarding the seatguru comments, the seats are all the same in width, all have TV in armrest and all armrests are not moveable.
As a whole, the PE experience on NZ is very good (and in my opinion, superior to SQ). Why?
  • Private lavatories for PE cabin
  • fancy linen cloths instead of paper towels in lav
  • Food service is delivered entree, main then dessert. On SQ, it all comes on one tray like economy
  • Good kiwi service consistent with almost every NZ flight I've been on (down to earth, genuine service)
