Reduction in Amex lounge benefits

These Amex Plat card changes are not good for us.

Since we are retirees so cannot apply for a Plat card (used to have one for almost 8 years when living in London - with hubby working we could apply for cards right left and centre. Now, no more!). Amex Australia refused to give us a Plat card here because we have no salaried income. So we had niece to apply and put hubby as her supplementary cardholder - we need the PP card and some hotel status. These 2 benefits we have used a fair bit in the last 2 years. Niece is not much of a traveller, so most of her primary benefits have gone to waste :(

Anyway from 1st October, no PP card for the supplementary cardholder, so we will not renew niece's Plat card (it expires in June).

Does anyone know how long we can keep the hotel status after cancelling the card? Will the hotels downgrade us soon after the card is cancelled? We have stayed at Hilton a fair bit (because of the free breakfasts benefit) and not so much at other hotel chains. We have got IHG and Accor status (both bought) and will keep them.

We don't really need a PP card as we often turn left on the planes.

Can one use the miracle and coral lounges in Bangkok thrpugh plaza premium benefit at no cost ?

Platinum Charge card gets you access to Plaza Premium lounges at no cost. Supps included. The lounges you mentioned I believe need to be accessed via PP as they're not Plaza Premium lounges AFAIK.

They are priority pass and I have accessed them using pp extensively previously .
However it’s not clear if they are plaza premium as it’s a little fuzzy on. Their website regarding same .

The reduction in lounge benefits is a clear devaluation for anyone who travels as a couple with one or two children.

But I’m wondering about contract lounges that accept a wide range of memberships and passes for access.

For instance, a contract lounge that accepts Amex Platinum to grant entry for the card holder and one guest.

If that contract lounge also accepts Priority Pass, could the Plat card holder use PP for admitting a third guest, such as their child?

Asking for a friend.

Nope. It’s attached to the pax BP accessing the lounge. So you can access it via one membership or the other but not both.

This card been been devalued so much, it is very frustrating, some of you may remember we use to get gold status with Cathay / Marco Polo club a long time ago, I used to use this a lot. Loosing the supplementary PP is the final straw, this is a big deal as when I travel with family we have kids. I don't know what the decision makers at Amex are thinking but they seem to have lost touch with their client base., maybe their top 20% by spend don't use the benefits.🤷‍♂️
