So to those in the know, I want to get my family to Europe in November for about 6 weeks, I have points in Malaysian Enrich, 85k and Qantas 390k. How to redeem anything more than Economy is the question.

1 The points to do Business in Malaysian are 120k return per person, but to do Qantas is around 1.8Million points
2 to obtain a single Malaysian airlines flight via Qantas, since Malaysian is now oneworld, is 289k points
3 Qantas won't guarantee upgrades, so buying economy and upgrading isn't feasible
4 Are there any oneworld airlines that let you use Qantas points to procure tickets on their airline or must I always go back to Qantas?

Other than standing around and comparing how many points you have I can't see what they are good for. What it is seriously saying to me is to go back to using Malaysian exclusively. I made a foolish decision to bank points in Qantas FF a year ago.

I would love to hear some fresh ideas.

Thanks

Dan C

Use the QF points to get to Asia in J and look at cheap J from there, although finding seats for a family will be tough!

Hi,

How many people need to get seats?

One other avenue is to just forget you have the points and buy the miles you'll need through a program like LifeMiles if you can find the seats. The taxes that Qantas charges are extraordinarily high so the price difference may not be as great as you think.

If we were like the US you could earn a ton more points through credit cards very quickly by applying for some. You might be able to earn enough by applying for credit cards to get some more QFF points to have enough for another seat but takes work and time to come through.

Read our AFF credit card guides and start earning more points now.

danc12 Welcome to the forum

Have you looked at QF web site (freq flyer section) to determine what points are required for a classic award flight ?
Do not use the point & pay screen

Qantas points can only be used direct with Qantas (by web or phone)
Need to be
- flexible with dates
- flexible with departure city & destination city
- consider splitting the famliy into 2 or 3 groups

Trains go to many places in Europe

.... The taxes that Qantas charges are extraordinarily high so the price difference may not be as great as you think.....
The taxes that Qantas charge are not extraordinarily high. The QF taxes are exactly the same as others carriers.
The carrier imposed fees (fuel surcharge) that Qantas charges are extraordinarily high. My understanding is that MH also has high carrier imposed fees
Never ever confuse real taxes with carrier imposed fees

Awards become available 353 days in advance and probably diminish closer to the date.

If his family consists of anything more than 3 people, 309k points for 3 people in J return will be a struggle, as we all know QF don't have the best value for redemptions lol
