Due to being over in the UK I've not been able to redeem my flight for this year. My year ends in August at which point I'll have another one.

In people's experiences, has AMEX been kind enough to let you redeem the previous one you missed out on? I'm sure I remember someone telling me they did this once, but obviously they're not obliged to and YMMV.....

Amex was kind enough to extend the deadline for redemption by a month for me.
Worth asking.

Maybe I'll ring and book now, then book the other one once the new year rolls over. Or..... do it 1 day into the new year and do both at once!

I have been warned twice in the last few years that I've booked my flight late... Ooops!

But they don't seem to care, and just match it to the flight from the year before. Very handy.

Haven't stretched it past a couple of months though, and I'm sure as an unwritten benefit (cough AUSBT are you listening?) it could be removed at any time.

anyone know what class needs to be available for redeeming flight?

I used 16k points and $110 to change my QF PER-SYD-PER to a one way J last time and so I felt that was a really good. I used points to get home. You may want to see if they can do Virgin J seeing you a virgin flyer with them. I would love to hear about Virgin J!

I rang Amex during the week to enquire about redeeming the flight on my Platinum Edge card and was advised that I am only required to book the flight before my anniversary, not take it, and flights can be booked up to 10 months in advance.

Blue saver

Actually, just Saver - Blue Saver no longer exists!

As discussed on another thread, approx. 7,000 points and $175 will get you a J flight SYD-PER without redeeming your free flight!

Yes I saw that post from Markis10 and have an Amex velocity application in the works because of it.Actually my Amex Ultimate still does the QF flight so I upgraded a QF flight to J.I am hoping that Virgin Australia J product is acceptable and I am watching for posts about that new product.

I too have had my deadline to book extended previously.

When you book your flight, I think it has be in the next 12 months. The last time I used my flight, as I would have had another one owing by the flight date, they happily booked 2 to fly together. In fact it was their suggestion.

I have just booked syd-bne-syd a couple of days ago, food and baggage included. so i think it is flexi rate.

You sure you are definitely getting food?

Mine was definitely Virgin Australia Saver Fare

23 kg Baggage is included but it says

Meal service Food-Bev/Pur

Which I assume means Purchase

That's very helpful, thanks!

Last time I booked I also had success in redeeming the free flight 1.5 weeks before the anniversary date.

The flight books in R class.
