Hi all,

I am looking at getting Mrs Lawrage a nice bottle of red for Christmas.

Anyway I am relatively new to the red wine world, I enjoy it but am no expert and wanted some advice on something really nice to get.

She mostly drinks Shiraz and Cab Sav. Havent decided on a budget on this yet, at a guess a few hundred would be something id consider if its worth it.

Any ideas are welcome as I'm a bit out of my depth here.

Nice.

Definitely go something aged.

I'd probably go for 2-3 bottles at around the $100 mark rather than 1 x $300 (but that's just me, as more opportunity to enjoy and I think that's the real value point)

I'd have a look at a Diana Madeline, Yarra Yering No. 2, a Clonakilla Shiraz or Brokenwood Quail.

Bin 389 (Baby Grange) is also a perennial favourite.

A very subjective question;

Rockford Basket Press
Magill Estate
St Henri
Clonakilla SV

RWT
Mount Eddlestone
Meshach

Run Rig

Drink soon-Ish or putting it away ( so to speak)?

irrespective, a bottle or two of Rockford sparkling black Shiraz, (if you can source) would tick all the boxes:

*. Christmassy

*. Classy

*. Delicious either now or in a few years

* fun

As you live in PER I would be looking at some of the good Cab. Sauv. from Margaret River.

Cullen and Moss Wood make some of the best wine in the World

Thanks for the feedback everyone. Going to take Bismarck's advice and get a few cheaper wines, that way we can drink one and keep another one or two for the years to come.

A see Cullen mentioned quite a few times so might pull the trigger on this one

Good choice, and nice instincts, Lawrage. The DMs are built to be drunk from the 8-10 year point on. And can go for many years after that, vintage depending (and good storage depending).

If you haven't already pulled the trigger, then I or one of the others on here can check with Langton's if they still have a stockpile of back vintages of the DM. If they do, then it might be worth getting three different vintages with some nice age on them. Please let me know if that interests you.

Thanks for the advice. I haven't pulled the trigger yet, was going to purchase tonight but I may wait now.

Anyone in particular at Langtons I should speak to about older vintages?

I'll pop you in touch with my Langton's broker. Just PM me your email address. And I'll leave you to work out the rest directly.

Cheers.
