G'day,

I'm new to this forum, and have not traveled Qantas international for quite some time. I'll be flying BNE-SIN in J and the following are my meal choices:

Ricotta, lentil and eggplant moussaka with red capsicum sauce. (main plate)
Chicken katsu on toasted milk bun with cabbage slaw, tonkatsu sauce and cucumber pickles. (main plate)
Grilled salmon with chilli, garlic, cherry tomatoes and squid ink noodles. (main plate)
Beef goulash with grilled zucchini, orzo and crème fraîche. (main plate)
Buttermilk fried turkey with zucchini pickles, cos lettuce and roasted chilli mayonnaise. (main plate)

I could eat any of the above, but some of the dishes would appear to be poor reheat candidates. I was thinking maybe the Salmon. Any recommendations on what to choose?

Hi and welcome to the forum. I had the salmon on QF41 two weeks ago.

Not the best main I've had on QF J recently but no complaints either. I gravitate towards fish as a main onboard as I prefer lighter food, especially after having a meal in SYD F beforehand.

Except for cold food, are not all airline meals reheated?

Of course. How do you think the fried katsu chicken or the fried turkey are going to reheat? Maybe Qantas has a special technique, but generally fried food does not reheat well.

Given the soggy "kiev" I received I would have to agree.

I've had the salmon a few times and it was quite nice. Looked nothing like photo above.

I suppose the palatability of the fried food options would depend on how precisely they are reheated (steam versus convection ovens).
