Re-instating expired miles

I had no idea my United Miles had an expiry date, as I last flew in 2017. I only logged into my account the other week as I'm flying again next month...only to see my miles expired

I have the option of re-instating them for $100USD.....can't decide if worth it or not. I have around 15,000 miles but such a low amount won't get me anything. The flights I have booked with UA and AC, as well as hopefully car rental and hotels) may bump things up after my trip, but I don't travel enough to really justify re-instating the points...unless I win Powerball tomorrow night .

Hi Nessa1977, check your profile settings to make sure they have the right e-mail address for you. I get pretty much spammed by MileagePlus when points expiry is approaching, as they love to push buying miles from them at a much worse rate than $100 for 15K

Unlike QFF, I would find it hard to miss UA mile expiry from my experience with their notifications.

Just checked my profile and everything is up to date. I also did a search in my inbox for anything related to MileagePlus and no email to say points due to expire...not one since 2017 when I first joined!

OK so now I feel like a real d*****d. Whilst my email address was correct...I wasn't subscribed to anything ...hence missing out on notification my points were due to expire.

Oh well, lesson learned.

FWIW, I would pay $100 to get 15,000 miles back. That's enough miles to fly from Fiji to Japan (for example).

Likewise. Its also 2-3 x Domestic Japan Y flights, which dont have taxes on them.

Ended up paying to re-instate and we'll see what points I get after my upcoming flights, as well as car rental and accommodation.

Any other way I can bump up my points? I'm in Australia.

Other than partner flights, there are some (very marginal) MileagePlus shopping options at the moment:

• Subscribe to the Economist for 3 months for US$12 and get 650 miles (note you must subscribe to the US edition, not to AU): The Economist coupon & promo codes 2019 - United MileagePlus Shopping
• Install the MileagePlus Shopping browser extension and spend at least US$50 with partners for 500 bonus points (difficult, few are relevant to AU, I have spent with Microsoft before for Xbox games but that's all I've found): Get the Button

Outside that, I have no idea. Anyone else?
