Like many on this forum, I am lucky enough to see the world in J class due to work. In fact, I have filled all 32 pages of my last passport in 20 months (42 countries).
Given the amount i places i fly to, I have a experienced many airlines
If i had to choose my favourites, i would rate them as:
1) Emerites. #1 by a good way. Why? Limo pickup from home and limo drop off at destination when flying business class. Real metal cutlery to eat with. World class food. Young pretty staff from all over the world. Great lounges. The option to pre clear customs in Dubai for Gold members. Multi optioned massage seats. Sign up to their FF program online as a Doctor (by mistake) and get instant Gold Card sent out...but I have flown enough for mine anyway
2) Singapore. The best of the rest. Just do the basics well....really well
3) BA. The imperial master may be getting a bit frazzelled around the edges, but it is still done with aplomb.
Special Mention to Virgin Atlantic. Gotta love the attitude of this airline
The pretenders:
1) Qantas. Maybe we judge them more hrshly due to their position as the incumbant but the girls are old, the seats are older, the service is too aussie (ie too relaxed. where's the pampering?)
2) SAA. Getting better but for a BA wannabee, still not good enough
3) Gulf - Compared to EK and Etihad, this Middle Eastern carrier is terrible
4) AA - Yuck
Should be banned (in no particular order)
1) Saudia Airlines - The only airline that has seats removed at the back of planes to allow for travellers to go and pray....pray that the plane doesnt fall out of the sky
2) Garuda - Soon to be a bus only service anyway as countries add them to their no fly list
3) Air Malaysia. Officially the worst business class seats in the world. Fly MEL - LHR in the same seats as QF domestic economy
4) LOT - "Excuse, do you speak English? My borscht is cold."
5) Air India - The smelliest, ugliest planes in the world.
6) Ethiopean Air. They can afford food. How do they afford aircraft maintenance?
7) SAS - Although the Scandinavians are nice, there are always too many Germans on the flights.
8) Lufthansa - See above about Germans. Also, I hate reading Die Welt.
9) Czech Airways - Twin prop planes and snowstorms don't mix
