Hi all,
Just a quick question for those in the know.

I have a classic award ticket for Mel-Syd-Sin in J. I was wondering if I arrive to Melbourne airport early for my Syd flight and there is availability can I take a earlier flight to Sydney to give me more time for hanging out in the lounges over there. There are 6 flights in the space of 2 hours i could possibly take. Just a thought is all. Wouldn't be too pushed about catering on board etc if on a earlier flight. Just not sure it can be done at all.

Many thanks,

It depends on the fare conditions which you should have received with your e-ticket. If the fare allows changes then yes this shouldn't be a problem at all.
If it doesn't, you can ask in the J lounge in MEL and see what they can do, although if you've already checked bags by that stage it makes it more complicated.

Re: Quick Question on taking a earlier domestic connection on a Classic J Award fligh

Qantas have always been very good to me when wanting to travel on an earlier flight, be that a paid flight in Y or J or using points.

Best to ask on check-in, that way your bags are tagged correctly all the way through to SIN, trying to do this one checked in would be harder and I wouldn't be too confident about the bags getting tagged correctly to SIN.

I've had success at the checkin counter.

Can't hurt to ask.

If you have a paid subscription to Expert Flyer you could set a flight alert for a few of the earlier flights MEL/SYD so if "U" class becomes available on those flights it will send you an email alert so you can call up res and change it.

Alternatively, get to the airport in plenty of time for the earlier flight(s) & get in the check-in queue for international connections & ask the CSA if it's possible to be put on an earlier flight as you want to ensure you have plenty of time to comfortably make your international connection.
