Quick earning question

Hi all,

I've got a quick points/SC earning question.

I have two fly Seattle -> LA in early December, so I'm going to be flying on an Alaska Airlines flight. I'm going to be flying in what Alaka calls "first class". My two options seem to be to book this as an AS flight, or an AA-codeshare flight (the cost is the same).

The one benefit I can see to booking this as an American flight is that I get FF points bonus as a Plat. But as it is a code-share AA flight (operated by Alaka) does this earn QF points/SCs? Or should I book this as AS since Alaska is now a QF partner airline?

From reading the QFF terms and conditions, it seems that booking this as an AA flight should be OK. But I'm a bit uncertain.

I believe you'll get points but not SCs whichever code you use. If it was a QF codeshare then you'd get SCs as well.

Yes, I believe that I'd get FF points no matter which way I book per:
Frequent Flyer - About the Program - Terms & Conditions

However the Plat bonus is only available on QF, BA, AA flights. Does it apply to AA code-share flights?

In terms of SCs, I see now that SCs can't be earned on partner flights. But SCs are earned on all "eligible" AA flights. Are AA codeshare flights eligible flights?

Yes, and yes only if it is a codeshare of a oneworld operated flight (so not for AS flight).

This is where it gets interesting (for me anyway). If I look at:
Frequent Flyer - About the Program - Terms & Conditions
I see this statement under CX (for example), which agrees with what you say:

"Status Credits are earned on all eligible booking classes.
Excluded: Points and Status Credits are not earned on joint venture flights or Codeshare Flights operated by airlines other than oneworld™ Alliance Airlines."

But under AA I only see:
"Status Credits are earned on all eligible booking classes."

It is very confusing! QFF points and status credits are treated differently.

Not sure if the section on status credits explains it any better?

* You can only earn Status credits when flying on eligible Qantas, oneworld alliance airlines (Aer Lingus, American Airlines, British Airways, Cathay Pacific, Finnair, Iberian and LAN), Air Pacific, Jetstar or QantasLink services. Status credits cannot be earned on LAN flights operated by LAN Ecuador or LAN Argentina. LAN affiliates LAN Ecuador and LAN Argentina are not members of oneworld. Status credits can be earned on flights operated by Jetstar Airways where a Qantas flight number is entered on your ticket when booked in Y, B, H, K or W class, or on a Jetflex fare.

Well, here's the answer to my question. I booked under the AA codeshare (AA6967) and got the 100% status bonus for flying under AA. I also got the 90 SCs that flying First class gets on that trip. Hope that helps others in the future...

Same thing for me when I flew Alaska Air booked as an AA flight from LA to Vancouver. Full points and SCs.

But when I flew Dragonair booked as a CX flight from Hong Kong to Beijing no points and no SCs.
