I can convert points from Altitude (270,000) & Amex MR (25,000) to a total of 160,000 Kris points, which in theory is enough to fly J return to Europe or the US using Saver and the 15% online discount.

In practice, because of the aircraft types excluded for Saver redemptions (A380, A340-500 all business, etc), it doesn't seem possible.

Is this correct? Or are there some routes or flights that still use (older) aircraft that would qualify? If so, would it be worth it?

Any suggestions for other options of destinations? I also have 70,000 QFF points & 2,800 Velocity points.

I haven't flown J and would like to, but unlikely to be able to afford it.

Thanks in advance.

You can get Saver J's to Rome, Athens, Istanbul, Amsterdam. Copenhagen and Frankfurt.

Amsterdam often is pretty easy to get.

Once in Europe trains and flights are very cheap. trains are very convenient IMO as you go from city centre to city centre.

I just booked 2 x J savers Bne-Milan SIA said the J Saver wasn't applicable as they were newish planes. Still seats there to.

Occasionally opportunities bob up to book J Savers to other cities, such as Milan. They normally do not last long and are normally errors. So if you see one...grab it while you can.

SQ always seems to honour such mistakes too.

Singapore to Europe destinations are not to hard to come by with redemption in J Saver. AMS will be on 777. Another FF member suggested to me that flying to Frankfurt would get you onto an A380 which sounds like a good stepping off point to other Euro cities. I have recently booked a ticket to AMS on J Saver. Expect to pay from 127,500 (AMS) to 160,000 approx depending on availablity. J Saver is avail as I am WL on A380 SYD-SIN, you just need to book well ahead.:)

Real money will be about $618.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Well spotted., and a big thanks.

I have now booked 3 in J going at Easter School Holidays.

So apart from the benefit of getting the 300ER at Saver rates, the other big benefts were:

  • getting 3 J's on the same flights to Europe!!
  • getting J at a peak time onlya few months out.

Slightly off topic, I want to book two J Savers SIN - MSP and need to tramsfer Amex points into my Krisflyer account. I dont want to do the trasfer then not get the awards. Can I call and ask if there are seats available?
Thanks in advance

What wrong with using the website to check this?

Because I dont have sufficient points in my account I cant see the result. I might be going about this the wrong way.
I think you must, I can check availability of flights I can't afford, it just wont let me go to booking stage!

It's against their policy but I've usually found if you call the call centre and are polite, they will book the redemption flight for you on the condition you transfer the points asap.

But you will be able to see availability.
i am pretty sure u can check for sq awards online even without points.
Correct - BUT - I have seen it where it will show availability but then a step or 2 later it will not complete booking.

This will be your best bet - every rep in SQ / KF phone centre has heard 1,000 times their is problem with booking redemptions online - just tell them site is acting up and ask them do the booking for you and they will still honour the 15% disc = or at least they have for me in past.

Only clarification I will add here is that I always have more than sufficient pts to cover redemption in KF account before I call them

You will need to make a judgement call on this one - but a simple phone call is all it will take - call the Aust (02) number and just hold til you get rep to talk to.

Yeah that should be obvious, why would any redemption program allow one to book if not having sufficient points [unless you have 50% and can pay $ to top up] ;) The idea is you are able to 'look' or 'check' first before committing the points transfer from elsewhere. [just be weary that the time it takes for the transfer points, those available award seats may be booked and/or disappear].

An I right then that when doing a dummy booking, only thing you can't find out if you don't have the points in your KrisFlyer account are the Taxes and Charges.

Are SQ charges as high as QF.

Anyone know approx charges SYD-AMS-SYD or better still to LHR return.
